The weight loss has taken a vacation

Nov 14, 2007

Here I am, six to seven weeks from surgery and I've lost a total of 25 pounds with the preop diet.  I've really not lost anything the past two weeks.  I started walking most evenings a couple of weeks ago.  I've lost 10.5 inches since surgery.  The best part is that I can walk so much easier.  I've been able to eat just about anything and hope that I will get a fill when I go to the doctor on Dec 13th.  I had my first sliming episode today.  I ate about four bites of cake and I got pain in my chest, gagging and then the upchuck of mucus.  Yuk!  My chest and throat hurt a little after that.  I was beginning to wonder if there was actually a band in there, and now I know there is.  It reared its ugly head today.  No more cake for me.  Did you hear that my little band?

Almost Two Weeks Since Surgery

Oct 13, 2007

It's almost been two weeks since surgery and I've lost 11 pounds since then, although very little this week.  My total loss so far, with preop diet is 19 lbs.  Not bad.  I am feeling better.  My port site is still a little sore but not too bad.  I am still suffering quite a bit with gas pain in my back and chest after drinking (still on fluids).  I've tried drinking more slowly, it helps a little.  I am so excited to be moving on to mushies in another day.  I can't wait to have food with some substance in my stomach.  I'm still eating very little.  I've had a protein shake with strawberries and a can of strained cream of chicken soup today.  I should try to get another protein shake in before bed.  That's all for now.  Just a little update on my progress.

My surgery Day

Oct 03, 2007

On October 1st, I arrived at the hospital at 0800.  At 0945 I was taken upstairs to be prepped.  I changed my clothes, put on some compression tights and answered a lot of questions.  My IV was placed and I was given some antibiotics and some medicine for relaxation.  I was also given an injection of blood thinner before I went to surgery.  I didn't go into surgery until 1100.  My family received the phone call at 1200 saying everything went great.  I got into my room at 2pm.  In comparison to my recent gallbladder surgery, I must tell you that I woke up in less pain when in recovery.  Once I got settled in my room, they put the compression pads on my legs and gave me morphine when needed.  I probably asked for pain meds 3 times.  I was also given meds for nausea.  My stomach was quite sore.  I woke up in the middle of the night with dry heaves but was only bringing up gas.  That was very painful.  I had quite a bit of gas that has now settled into my left shoulder.  I walked up and down the hospital corridor but it did little good.  The next day, on tuesday, I was given more antibiotics and switched over to liquid hydrocodone for pain.  I have only been taking half-doses because it upsets my stomach.  I pretty much stayed with water only on tuesday.  I tried jello and chicken broth and they both made me naseous.  Yesterday I was able to drink one protein shake.

Today is thursday and I am starting to feel human again.  It is the third day after surgery.  The gas and pain are easing up.  I am feeling less naseous.  I am so glad the worst is over.  Also, I found that I am able to walk a lot easier than with the gallbladder surgery.  I would have to say that the lapband surgery was easier, as a whole.  I haven't experienced as much gas or breathing problems with this surgery either.

Now I will concentrate on healing fully and then with getting this weight off.  Thanks to everyone who prayed for me.  It made a difference and I truly appreciate it.

3 more days

Sep 29, 2007

Well, I guess it's really two more days!  I am scheduled to go in for surgery at 8am monday morning.  I'm probably not as excited as I should be.  I'm just dreading the surgery so much.  I've lost 9 lbs thus far in my two week pre-op diet.  For me, that is surprising.  I'll go shopping tomorrow after church to get some last minute items I'll need.  Today I'm focusing on cleaning the house while I'm feeling good.  I so hope that this surgery is my path to success in the weight war I've been fighting all my life.  I will appreciate all prayers that you can send my way for Oct.1.  Thanks.

MOVING ALONG--GALLBLADDER SURGERY

Aug 25, 2007

Well, I've lost about 7 pounds so far on my diet.  It's been the usual diet for me.  I do well the first three weeks and start going downhill from there.  I had my gallbladder removed on Wednesday, the 22nd.  It was not fun!!  I woke up in pain and I am still experiencing pain, although it's a little better.  Most of the pain is deep around the belly button area where they removed my gallbladder.  The incisions around my gallbladder aren't too bad.  I'm not eating much because everything I eat or drink gives me more gas.   Yuk.  Anyways,  I have my two week post-op appointment on Sept 7 and I should also get the date for my band placement that day also.  I'm just having a hard time getting excited over another surgery at this point.  I really hope the lab band surgery is easier than the gallbladder.  If you are reading this and you have personal knowledge, send me a message.  Au revoir.

Not Banded Yet--and still dieting

Jul 04, 2007

I started another diet this week and I've not even got a date for banding yet.  I feel so bad that I just can't wait any longer to start feeling better.  I know that diet and exercise are important with the band, so maybe I'll get a headstart.  I need to take some control before I gain even more weight.  I figure I've got at least three months to wait before I'll get surgery and I don't want to gain any more before then.  I'm considering this diet to be practice.
