After years of considering the surgery I finally attended an information session at a local hospital on 9/20/06. My consultation visit was 10/26/06. Because my insurance requires it I have to wait through six months of supervised weight loss visits before the surgery can be scheduled. I figure that will be some time in late April or early May 2007. That's funny because when I took this new job I began saving sick time so I could have the surgery in the summer of 2006 but I just wasn't ready emotionally. I'm not sure I'm ready now but I am moving forward hoping I will become so. I have five children ages 16-25. I really want to grow old with them and I really want to enjoy my grandchildren. I have diabetes and hypertension. Right now I am maxed out on oral hypoglycemics and I know the next step is insulin. I don't want to take insulin because I know it will cause me to gain even more weight. I guess what I'm saying is....it's time to do this.
