It has been two amazing years since I went to Mexico for VSG with Dr Ramos-Kelly.  I had looked at many options nearer home, but since I was a "low" BMI my insurance would not cover any procedures.  After 35 years of dieting, WW, Atkins, etc I knew I couldn't start another year with no hope of losing the weight for good.  It took less than a year to get to a normal BMI, get my cholesterol and BP under control.  But, the journey is not over.  Keeping the bad habits under control is still a struggle.  The surgery was a great starting point and still keeps me in control, but I still love food (especially the bad stuff).  I make conscious choices every day to plan and follow through with eating what I should.  I still slip up, but now I have more control to stop before it gets out of hand.  This surgery will not be the total answer, you still have to work at it.  It was a great tool and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Dr Kelly was wonderful and caring.  He spent a lot of time talking about the surgery and helping me understand all the issues.  I did not have any medical support after I came home, expect for my PC physician (who is also wonderful).  Luckily I had no complications from the surgery and was able to follow the eating plan for the entire two months recovery.  Christmas time is the worst eating period (everyone has parties and brings in food).  I have the ability to eat under control now.  Best decision I ever made!
