"When I was there for RNY I really did not have a good stay. I felt the nurses were a bit cold. Then I was readmitted twice for complications and the nurses couldn't have been better (most of them, anyway) so maybe the fact that I was so out of it after surgery clouded my judgment on my first visit."
"My first impression of Dr. Doxey was that he is very professional and pleasant and that impression has not changed. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful - from the front desk staff, to the nurse, to the insurance person.
The only negative thing about the visit was that my height is an issue - they checked it with my shoes on and I didn't speak up until after we were already in the room. It didn't get rechecked, just 1/4" taken off and I'm still not convinced that is completely accurate.
Future patients might want to know ahead of time that he is efficient with his time and doesn't piddle around. I didn't necessarily feel that he rushed me, but the visit wasn't long at all. I think some might be put off by that if they didn't know to expect it up front. But he definitely takes time to explain and let you ask all the questions you want.
He has rules about aftercare and emphasizes the importance of daily vitamins, proteins and avoiding foods that are not healthy or may cause dumping.
I think he does have a structured aftercare program that includes a group, but since I live several hours away I can't possibly be included in that. He did give me a good idea of what to expect post-op.
He had a sheet listing all of the risks of surgery and the chances of each. He went down the list and explained them all one by one.
Overall, I feel confident having Dr. Doxey as my surgeon. Surgical competence seems to be his strong point, but bedside manner isn't lacking. Of course, I have only had my consultation so far, I'm sure I'll have a firmer take on this after the surgery has actually happened."
