Well, I am sure that my story is similar to everyone else's on here. But here goes. I have never been a heavy person. That is until I became pregnant with my first child. At my first OB visit for the pregnancy, I weighed 157 and believe it or not that was heavy for me. However, the pounds piled on during the pregnancy. I checked into the hospital in August 1999 weighing in at a depressing 226.4. However, I delivered a beautiful baby girl. After coming home, I quickly dropped to 180 and began to feel pretty good. However, that was short lived, as I began to put the weight back on. I began WW and got down to about 170 best I can remember. However, in 2004 I was pregnant again...In June 2005 I checked into the hospital weighing in at 246.5..OMG...I was sickened by my weight. But, I did deliver a handsome baby boy who bounced in weighing 10 lbs...I again lost weight pretty quickly and within 2 weeks I was at about 210 give or take a couple of pounds.
However, that was short lived. In October 2005 I had emergency gallbladder surgery. I weighed 208 when I went into the hospital and 219 when I checked out 4 days later. I guess it was all the fluids they pumped into me. From that point, I continued to gain. In March 2007 I decided I was tired of fighting and talked with my physician about Lap-Band surgery. She thought I was a good candidate and referred me to UVA. I went for my consultation and pre-op testing and low and behold my insurance company denied me for pre-exisiting. I found out that my policy would be pre-existing until Jan 22, 2008. I was so excited. I kept the staff at Dr. Northup's office abreast of my weight and everything that was going on. Anticipating surgery in early 2008 I called to set up my consultation and guess what I was informed of ......Dr. Northup was no longer there and a new surgeon would be performing my surgery...Well, to make a long story short...I asked a lot of questions and got few answers that I accepted.. I decided to change my direction and find another surgeon. However, I was very disappointed...and a little discouraged.
I found this website and located a physican/surgeon that I am very excited about meeting...I have my first consultation on February 8 with Dr. Roc Bauman in Concord, NC. I can hardly wait..
My husband is the best....He has been so supportive thru all of this...I know he gets tired of hearing me complain but he never says a word unless it is encouraging...He is the absolute best and I cannot "weight" (get it) until I lose the weight so he can have a good looking wife again. I know, even though he doesn't say it, he has to be somewhat embarrassed. I tell him all the time we are like the movie Shallow Hal...He just laughs and says no were not, you're the most beautiful woman in the world to me. That makes me feel good...
Anyway, this is a short version of "my story." Please feel free to offer up any advise, tips....anything related to WLS...I want to know..
