Oh my goodness. I almost missed my 5th surgery anniversary 6 days ago. I can't believe it has been that long ago. Since I have last posted, my son had surgery in Brazil in 2005 with Dr. Marchesini and my husband had surgery in October of 2008 in Brazil with Dr. Antelmo Sasso. My son went from a surgery weight of 495 to a current weight of 255. My husband has gone from 311 to 206 currently.
Personally, my starting weight was 330. I went down to 175 but have had a bounce this last year of 20 pounds so I am now at 195. I am not happy with that so I am gonig to start exercising and cutting my carbs to try to get back to 175 and lower if possible. Even if that does not happen, I am still quite happy with where I am. The number one goal I had was to improve my health and function and I have defenitely achieved that.
What is even better is the improvement in my son with a weight loss of about 270 pounds!!!! He now has a life. He looks so good! He is now able to live like a normal young man at age 29.
And probalby the best thing is that my husband is off of all diabetic medications including insulin as well as a ton of blood pressure medications.
I would love to hear from anyone who is researching DS surgery especially out of the country. My surgery was in Spain and as stated, both my husband and son had surgery in two different areas of Brazil.

I can't believe that I have not posted in all of this time!!!
It was 3 years ago on June 1st that I had my DS surgery in Spain. My highest weight was 355 pounds. I weighed 330 pounds at the time of my surgery and I now weigh 174 pounds. I used to where size 32 pants and now wear size 14!! My son backed out of surgery in 2004 but did have surgery in Brazil this past December. He has lost 120 pounds in 5 months!!
I can't tell you how much has changed for the better. Not only do I function better and look better, but I have much more self confidence. I need to post photos but I am not that good with the computer. One of these days maybe I will have someone help me upload my photos.
Anyway, it is the best thing I ever did for myself and my only regret is not learning about this surgery sooner!!!
