And the saga continues
Mar 27, 2008
It is now March 27 and I feel as if I've been through the mill. Dr. Poplowski, under advisement from my congenital heart specialist decided that the clinic was not the right venue for my surgery. He promised, however, to speak to his colleague at the University of Michigan and when I didn't hear after a few days, I called them directly and was turned down because I apparently live too far away. It's probably because of insurance and the fear of being sued.
So I started the research all over again and came close to seeing a doctor in Ontario because I was assured that his wait times were short but a call proved that no, indeed, his plate is full already and the wait time is over 2 years. I won't live that long.
Rochester became an alternative and when I heard all the great things about Dr. O'Malley, I made another call and pending OHIP approval, I'll be added to his files. Apparently, the fact that I have had all my testing might save some time which would be wonderful, not to mention the travel and expense. Rochester is, however, a more feasible alternative because I can take a bus from downtown Toronto right to Rochester.
I guess all in all, it hasn't been that long since I've been pursing my goal. I am very determined and when things need to move, I tend to be able to move them.

Getting healthy
Jan 17, 2008
I am 56 years old, living in downtown Toronto. About 10 years ago I was placed on permanent disability by my company because of a blood clot which we think was the result of a stress-related situation at work. In the interim there have been several medical anomalities arise and the final blow was an accident causing the break of my left knee and right foot which made it almost impossible for me to get around for about a year during which time I gained an additional 100 pounds to my already plump 5' body.
My brain did not sit idly by, however, I got my B.A from the University of Waterloo and then my Certificate to practice Mediation from Conrad Grebel University over these past 10 years.
Since I am unable to exercise like I once could, i.e., jog, my doctor suggested some type of surgical intervention. So I went on the net and turned it upside down doing the research.
I first went the usual Ontario route and was frustrated and disappointed by not only the options but the facilities and the doctors. So I placed all my efforts on Barix and specifically Dr. Popowsky. I will soon have the OHIP paperwork completed and sent and have my consultation at Barix, Yip on February 4.
I am so excited!
