Day 4 Post Op, Back Home, Feeling Great!

Jul 08, 2016

I reached my goal size of 20 by day of surgery, and I'm down 32 lbs! I'm thrilled with this decision! I feel healthier and more energized than I have in years.

So here's the very few negatives I have so far:

I cannot drink as much water as I want at a time. I am not a sipper of water. I am a gulper and could drink 80+ oz per day easily before surgery. I am still trying to reach 64 a day and am failing miserably at about 40 oz.

Feeling full is very different now. I just feel pressure in my chest instead of the fullness lower in my stomach. But I don't feel hungry at all, so that's a plus.

I keep freaking out about the possible after-surgery complications, like leaks and surgical incision infections. There are no signs or symptoms of either, and my doctor was amazingly thorough. I know because he gave me a copy of the surgery, and he did everything exactly right. That still doesn't keep me from reading the horror stories because apparently I'm incredibly morbid.

That's all the negatives! The positives are way outweighing them! I'll post monthly before/after pics as well. Just curious, did anyone else ask for a copy of their surgery?

Goal update:

Day of Surgery: 290 lbs - Reached a few weeks before surgery.

After Surgery (no dates set, but I'd like to lose all the weight in under 2 years):

275 Reached within the few days after surgery (07/04/16), and currently at 271.0 lbs on 7/8/16.

Countdown to Surgery in t minus 50 days till surgery.

May 16, 2016

So I'm starting this journal to hopefully eventually turn it into a blog. I don't know if I'll actually officially "blog" about it, but for now just getting my thoughts out is fine. I'm so excited to finally be getting this surgery. I've suffered from PCOS since a miscarriage in 2007, and I have since gained over 150 pounds. I'm tired all the time, but have chronic insomnia, and suffer from severe migraines, fatigue, and joint pain in my hands, wrists, knees, and feet.

My family and friends think I'm crazy for going to Mexico to get gastric sleeve surgery, also called VSG, and I haven't even worked up the nerve to tell my mother. I'm not going to tell her till I've completed the surgery safely and flown back home. But I've researched my doctor, Dr. Marco Sarinana, and I'm very happy with all of his reviews and qualifications. Right now, I'm just ready to get to the pre-op diet (in 20 days!) and start losing weight.

My best friend is planning one last feast before the diet starts, with cookies, cake, muffins, and all the other stuff I won't be able to eat after the surgery or during the pre-op diet. I'm pretty curious to know if other gastric sleeve patients have a "blowout" party before pre-op dieting. That would be a good blog question to end the article on.

So one last note, I am around 300ish pounds at 50 days till surgery. I ordered a scale because I really don't know how much I weight (and I'm a little terrified to find out, actually). I wear a 20/22 in pants and a 2-3x in tops. My goal weight after surgery is 140 lbs. Here's a breakdown of my mini goals:

At 5'7", smaller than a medium makes me look like a 12-year-old boy who's just hit his first growth spurt, so I'd rather not go any lower than that. I'm comfortable in a medium. Anyone else who's been thin at one time but has gained weight ever dream that they're still small? I have those dreams all the time.
