One Week

One week since my surgery. Feeling good most of the time. Had my birthday in the hospital. Had surgery at Toronto East General Hospital. Doc was good, nurses were terrible. I found out this is a teaching hospital. sucks. The residents were awesome but the nurses didn't have a clue.
My heart rate monitor kept going off during my second night. This means my heart rate was below 50. Kept waking me up and my roomie. After 30 minutes, with no response, I finally used my call button. Some new young thing came in, didnt know what to do about it. I knew when she left the room, I wouldnt see her come back until morning. I dont think she ever came back.
Early morning rounds, teacher and nurse, (dumb and dumber) neither could figure out why my IV stopped running. Neither one could fix it. Let's just leave it and take it out later. Dumber came back to remove the IV. I was asleep when she came in, and woke briefly. She pulled it out, stuck on a tiny cotton swab and piece of tape. I starting back to sleep when I felt something. I looked at my hand and there was blood everywhere. She did not apply any pressure and with the blood thinners, I was bleeding everywhere. morons. So now my bed was covered in blood, up I get so they could change the sheets. Forgot, Dumber asked me if I got my IV there? Where the hell would I have got it? At home? Scary who they pass in schools now.
I found out from one of the residents that my lung collapsed during surgery. Hence the nasty cough I had afterward. I will be asking the surgeon how it happened and how did they re inflate it at my next appt.
At least I had a good roommate who happened to be a nurse. She looked out for me too.
Glad I have soup on the menu now. Love soups. Still eating my sugar free jello even though I dont have to anymore. Not liking cottage cheese. Thought I would buy one to try. yuck. I put some in my tomato soup, works better there.
Cant wait until I can have some soggy cereal. That is if my daughter hasnt eaten all my gluten free Chex by then.
