Let's hear it. 10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1 Happy New Year  (2011) and Happy New Start for Everyone. If your here and reading my story it's no different from most people. Yes, I've struggled with my weight issues for a majority of my life and yes, like most people I seek to live a healthier life in a regular size body. Let me give you a quick overview of my life as it relates to lbs. Always being a chunky kid i was told by most "you have a cute face but need to loose some weight". I never had issues with boys being attracted to me but..it seemed to be the ones I never really wanted or liked. You know what i mean ladies (lol). Anyway, a life changing moment in my weight history started after "Nevis Carnival of 1991". I was face with a harsh reality that although i may have a cute face and can dress my figure up well, i was still a Fat girl, as the Carnival's road march theme for that year was "Big Fat People Party" (shake your belly). I can still envision the dance in my head to this day. It was a catchy beat.  

  I turned 15 that summer and entered by sophomore year in high school with the determination to loose weight. It also helped that i had the growth spurt window on my side. I went from 250 to 160in less then a year. I still search for that same determination with no success today. Damn that youth energy!! I was able to keep the weight off all through high school and college years. Which were some of the best and i do mean best years of my life. I started to slowly re-gain weight in 1998 after moving to the south for Graduate school. Everything in the south tasted better and in 3 months I gained 40lbs. What the heck. I escaped the freshman 20's in college to gain the graduate 40's seeking advance higher education.
 
After having my first child in 2000 i ballooned to my highest weight 320-330. I decided to have the lap-band WLS in 7/2005 with the support of my family esp my older sister / OH member(kenyamom). Initially i lost some weight but wasn't always compliant and never reached my goal. Then.. i got pregnant- took the fill out, gained weight and didn't have insurance coverage to pay for the fills and maintenance of the lap band needs. I even had an ins co say the fills weren't cover because it was a pre-existing condition. As a result the Lap band didn't work for me although it was successful for others that i know.

Today i am 34 yrs old, 280- 285, have hypertension and on the border line for diabetes with a strong family hx on both sides. I am a educated single mother of two beautiful boys who deserve to have me in their lives until all of us are old I work in a hospital and recently have been seeing a lot of people in my age group coming in with strokes d/t health conditions and weight. Which strongly impacted my choice to have WLS revision. I am still not sure what my insurance company will cover or which surgery type i will go with at this time. And that my fellow friends is where my journey begins again. Another start to get it right and accomplish the goals i set out for in 7/2005. Pls keep me in your thoughts and prayers and wish me luck.   Ladychuggs34
