For as long as I can remember I have been obese. My whole family except for my grandmother and one of my aunts had a heatlhy weight. Everyone else was obese , I was a 9 pound baby when i was born and they always made jokes about how a few minutes after i was born they had to feed me right away because i wouldn't take water only. Thru my kid years i was referred as the fat one and sometimes it di bother me but other's it didn't . My next door neighbor and I were really close friends and I use to call him Porky and he would call me Petunia. The people in the neighborhood used to tell us we would end up married . Thru my teenae years I knew I had to control my weight and I lovrd to dance and walk. So of course I lost some of the weight and looked good and atractive. When I lef m secondary school and went on to High School i kept the weight off by walking a lot. But then I got married and gained a lot of weight . By the time I got pregnant with my first child i was weighing 200 pounds from a 163 I weighted when I got married. This was just 9 months after I got married . I was so sick during my pregnancy that when I had my son I weighted 147 pounds and of course I looked great but it all came back again and I ended up going back to my 200 pounds. Then 5 years later I kept going back and forth with my weight but never went lower than 181. I joined weight watchers and I don't recall how many times I did that . Then I got pregnant with my daughter and again from199 lbs I went down to 157 after the delivery . I still gained the weight back plus more . We moved around lot with the military and my weight would go up and down as always. I got tested for my thyroid so many times it was ridicuolus. After we moved to Colorado just a month after I lost my father to cancer - then a few years later I lost my grandfather to diabetes. By the time my grandfather died he had lost both of his legs - his sight completely and his memory , it was very sad . Then a year or so after my grandmother had open heart surgery. I kept thinking I needed to do something about my weight before it continue to get out of control . I weighted 285 lbs and I couldn't believe i was so close to 300 lbs. The last time I went to Puerto Rico everyone in my family jsut kept saying how big I looked and then the last draw was when my husband went home for Christmas last year and my genadmother looked at me in a video and said I looked ugly and looked like a block of meat. That hurt my feelings because she raised me and she's like my mother . I just couldn't keep going with this kind of eating and keep thinking I was going to loose weight or I would just loose the weight a year before going home . I went to have an anual check up at the hospital in Fort Carson and the nurse asked me in the office if I had ever thought about Gastric Bypass Surgery . I remeber telling her I would love to but a freind at work got it done and she had to py out of her pocket over $25,000.00 and I didn't had that kind of money . She then told me the military wasdoing the surgery there at Fort Carson I told her yes but probably for the Active Duty personnel .She said no they are doing it for the retired personnel as well and asked me if I was interested I said yes and told my husband about it. I also told my husband "yeah, right they will never call me you'll see . Two days later I received the call and got my first appointment where I met Dr. Imlay. he explained to me and my husband all the information about the surgery and he went straight to the point he answered all our questions and I began doing all my paperwork to get my surgery date . After everything was completed I met with him on 8/24/07 and that was my preop - appointment . My surgery date is Sept 4th 2007 and I'm currently weighing 263 pounds and i'm only 5 feet tall. I'm praying for no complications and a fast recovery.
