I had gastric sleeve on January 7, 2010 by Dr. Philip Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic.  I loved Dr. Schauer.  He was an amazing surgeon.  I wanted to have gastric bypass but Dr. Schauer felt it was safer for me to have the sleeve first and then proceed to gastric bypass due to my high bmi, severe obstructive sleep apnea and type 2 diabetis.  He said after I had the sleeve and lost a significant amount of weight we would convert my sleeve to bypass.  (Usually at around 12 to 18 months post sleeve).  I lost 52 lbs on my pre op diet so lost a total of 175 lbs.  I loved my sleeve but was still stuck in the 270s.   I had my sleeve converted to a bypass on July 9, 2013 with Dr. Hagen at Humber River Hospital in Toronto.  Dr. Hagen is an amazing surgeon as well.  I trusted him 100%.  The surgery went perfect.  I am four weeks post op and feel GREAT !!  I am still in awe at how smooth the surgery went converting my sleeve to bypass.  As of right now (4 weeks post op) I don't notice any difference yet between my sleeve and bypass but I am just starting on soft foods today.  This has been an exciting journey.
