Getting back on track
Sep 07, 2010
It's hard to believe that it has been 9 years since I had my RNY! I am very glad I had the surgery, even though I had numerous complications after wards. I would definitely do it again!
The first few years after surgery, I followed everything my doctor advised me. But, as time has gone by, I have become very lazy in following the rules of the pouch. I have learned "tricks" to be able to tolerate more food...such as using creamed soups in recipes to make them go down easier (and basically, slide right on through causing me to be able to eat more). Cooking the heck out of foods so they are softer and slide through easily. Eating TONS of carbs before protein. Actually, lately, I have included very little protein in my diet. I also have been drinking with my meals, instead of waiting at least the 1/2 before and after. I eat small amounts of carbs (fish crackers are my weakness) though out the days...also known as "grazing". I have made bad choices.
No ones fault but my own. I take responsibility.
I had been given a great tool but I had chosen not to use it like I should. Well, NO MORE! I don't know if I ruined my pouch by my bad habits. I hope it will still work, somewhat, for me. I was reading on-line and came across the 5 Day Pouch Test. I thought it wouldn't hurt to try it. So today, is my first day...on liquids. I am determined to stick with this to try and see if it makes a difference. I am also going to start following the "rules of the pouch" again...PROTEIN FIRST, drinking 64 ounces of water a day, staying away from all the foods that are not healthy for me, and not grazing throughout the day.
So far, so good. I had Carnation Instant Breakfast with 1 cup 1% milk (it's all we had in the house) and 2 TBS of non-fat instant milk powder. A couple hours later, I had 4 ounces of SF Jello. I have got 24 ounces of water in so far and don't feel like I'm gonna float away!
LOL
