My name is Tiffany Scheuplein. I am currently a junior at the University of Oklahoma and one day hope to become a doctor. Me entire life I have always been just a tad larger than everyone. I developed much faster than the majority of my friends, and as a consequence was the giant up until middle school. Growing up I was always an active child, I was involved basketball, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and competative cheerleading. Unfortuantely when I quit all of those in college, the weight accumulated. I started researching bariatric surgery a little over a year ago, when I came across an add online. Both of my parents are in the medical field, and were extremely supportive. The hill, or rather mountain, to overcome was getting my insurance company to approve it. I did not start the official process until Janurary of this year, 2011, and I was approved as of March 1 and will be going in for gastric banding on March 31. I am incredibly lucky to have such an awesome support team. I have my parents and siblings, along with my godparents and my sorority big sis. It has been difficult to do so, but I am choosing not tell the vast majority of people in my life. I feel as though they may not be as accepting of my decision as the ones who do know in my life. I am VERY nervous but I know that this is a blessing and will forever change my life!
