Still working towards getting approval for surgery

Mar 10, 2007

I cannot believe that it has been two months almost since I last posted.  I am into my second round of working up to approval from insurance.  Since I was turned down the first time because my primary was not specific enough, I have started again the procedure of going three months to my primary for three months in a row.  Trisha in Dr. Davis' office told me to go again and then we will submit everything again including the new documentation as a new procedure request.  So this is where I am at again.

I am into my second month of seeing my primary.  I don't know if this is good or bad but I have one additional reason I need to get the surgery.  Last month I could hardly walk from pain in my legs.  It was diagnosed that I have severe arthitis and possible herniated disc in the low back.  So I spent a week off on strict bedrest.  That seemed to have done the trick and I was doing fine again until last week.  Again, back pain and leg pain in which it is very difficult to walk or even stand up.  So again on bed rest.

Sometimes I feel like I am being put to the test or more like never being able to forget my it is so important that I do exactly as I am told when I have the surgery.  It seems like this is taking for ever to get this approved.  And I have to be honest, I see ads for surgery or run into many that have now have had the surgery and I get feeling sorry for myself.  I say to myself, why them and not me?  I certainly qualify!!!

I know I am not going to give up hope.  I cannot afford to.  But sometimes I wonder if it will every happen.  It took me forever to even decide to do surgery and I guess now I am just impatient.

Well, folks, I guess that is enough for tonight.  I need to lie back and get comfortable again before the back starts throbbing again.

Hope you all remembered the early Daylight Savings time and turned your clocks ahead.

REALLY DISAPPOINTED FOR NOW

Jan 30, 2007

I was all excited because I knew that my paperwork had gone in and soon I would be on my way to better health.  But that excitement turned into a big disapointment because my insurance denied my request.  Something about my primary doctor's documentation was not specific enough.

When I saw him and let him know this, he became infuriated and said his documentation was always good enough before.  He was not going to let an insurance company tell him how to document his notes.  He now wants the insurance company to send him a letter with specifics as to his documentation.  In the mean time, here am I between the primary and the insurance company.  I trusted him to know what to document.

So for a couple of weeks, well, actually about a week I was down in the dumps but then I decided to get up again and fight.  So, I am starting again and hopefully this time I will get approved in spite of my primary doctor.  I requested a dietician to see me for the next three months to add to the documentation.  That was one of the objections.  The diet was not mentioned enough in the notes and the progress of it.   I will also keep a record of my walking and send it in with the documentation (another specific that wasn't specific enought).  This is the only way I can think of to beat the system at this time.

As for Dr. Davis, my surgeon.  No complaints with his office.  Trisha did everything and told me what to get which I did but how was she to know that my primary would not be specific enough.

Okay, enough venting for tonight.
