I had always been pleasantly plump growing up. Having a mother who never had a weight problem presented problems of their own. I always dismiss this tho by remember that someone has no way of knowing what another person is going through until you have walked a mile in their shoes. So I just put it down to my mom just never understood.
I had two children 1990 and 1992 and I have to say that having kids sure can do wonders to a woman's body and metabolism. It's been a struggle every since.
Fast forward to present time, I found myself in a relationship that was dead. I guess I just coped by finding comfort in friends...which typically involved food. Eating is a very social thing to me, so heading out for dinner was a great thing to do to fill in the time where I'd typcially be home alone. Food was my friend and made up for what I lacked in my marriage.
After buying the biggest size of pants I have ever bought, I decided it was time to implement change. I just wasn't sure how. One day at work a quiet and unassuming woman I sat one row over from, stopped to chat with me in the hall. She told me about Lap-Band surgery and what it has done for her. I was sooooooo impressed that I got right on it.
I had a consultation with my PA and she recommended me to the clinic in Scottsbluff. As I sat through my orientation I looked around at the other people in the room and remember thinking...wow..I am thin compared to these people. As I look at my picture from the day of surgery, I realize no...I was not thin. Perception is a funny thing.
I must say that Lap-Band surgery is the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. I was an at home mom for 9 years, then re-entered the business world. I have done a lot for others in the past but this has been an incredible experience...just for ME! ![]()
I received my new lease on life on August 14, 2007. I am right at the half way mark (30 lbs) for the projected amount of weight to be lost in the first year based on my weight category. I know my weight loss has been gradual and rather slow compared to some but I have enjoyed the ability to still eat all foods, just in smaller quantities. I don't feel that terrible hunger that used to plague me all day long. I feel full fast but also don't feel deprived as very few foods present a problem for me to swallow. I haven't had any complications from my surgery - in fact the only side effect I have had is losing weight!!! Ya-hoo!!!
I look foward to the next half of my journey...I see what this has done for others..and I'm tagging along for the ride!!
