University of Illinois

"Overall, the stay at UIC was pleasant, the staff was courteous and kind. The nurses were attentive (but busy!) and the student nurse was terrific! The food wasn't all that bad, either :-) !"

Joseph M. Vitello

"My first impression of Dr. Vitello was that he was very NO NONSENSE. He seemed to try to talk my husband out of the surgery, and in fact, implied that he had not done enough other things first. After the consult, however, Dr. Vitello was MUCH different. He was very personable, knowledgable, and friendly. He will never be a touchy feely kind of person, but he is likable. If you are going to be a patient of Dr. Vitello's, you should know that he has only one nurse, and one nutritionist. He is extremely busy, and he works out of a teaching hospital. This means that while he will spend whatever time is required with you once you see him, it is tough to set appointments sometimes. Also, this means that while you are in the hospital you will have student doctors and nurses poking around. There are support group meetings, but they are in downtown Chicago, which can make it difficult if you are a suburbanite. Overall, Dr. Vitello has an excellent reputation, is thorough and meticulous, and is an extremely conscientious surgeon. I was very impressed with his clinical skill, and obvious concern for his patients."
