I'm normal weight for the first time in many, many years.

Dec 25, 2009

I haven't updated my blog in a year.  It's hard to believe how fast time flies by.  Over the past year, I've maintained my weight and prepared for my first plastic surgery procedure.  I had a lower body lift with lipo on the outter thighs on Nov. 24th.  The pain was manageable thanks to my darling hubby making sure I took my pain meds on time.  I'm 4 weeks out now and most of the swelling is gone and I'm very happy with the early results.  It takes a few months for everything to settle so we'll see how things look later in the spring.  I am thinking about having the "girls" fixed also.  Wanna get the LBL paid for first.

I'm so blessed to have had the RNY and the LBL.  I've lost  a total of 127 pounds.  It's amazing how much better I feel, physically and mentally.  I'm getting in shape to be able to keep up with my first grandchild due in June 2010!  Can't wait to meet him/her.  Ready to spoil and love unconditionally!

One year surgiversary

Oct 21, 2008

Sunday made a year since my gastric-bypass.  I had my one year follow up appointment today with Dr. Chapman.  He was very pleased with the results of the surgery and my weight loss.   I wanted to share the following with you.

Since Oct. 4, 2007  I’ve lost: 118 pounds & my BMI has gone from 47.5 to 26
Gone from a tight size 22 to a 10 petite

In inches I’ve lost:
Neck 2.5”
Shoulders 7.5”
Chest 9.38”
Bust  11.75
Bicep  6.5”
Forearm 2.75”
Wrist  .88”
Midriff 14”
Waist  23”
Hips  22”
Thigh  9.75”
Calf  5” A
nkle  1.75”

Total inches lost…… 116 3/4”

I’m off all prescription meds for BP, depression & insomnia, AND I’ve avoided diabetes and having to take cholesterol meds.  All my cholesterol levels are well within normal range.  I’m only about 6 pounds away from having a normal BMI.  My body fat % is within normal range.  This surgery has truly been a miracle….

9 month update - 107 pounds gone forever!

Jul 20, 2008

Well a lot has happened since I updated my page last.  Let's see now, as for WOW moments, on June 18th I hit the 100 pound lost mark which was so fabulous.  I am down to a size large/14 pants and a medium/large top.  It's so nice to be able to go into a store and buy clothes and just know they will fit.  Today I took all the size 16s out of the closet and will pass them along to a worthy cause.

In April I had my first colonscopy and a small carcinoid tumor was found.  I had surgery on May 28th and came home on June 2nd.  My 96 year old grandmother died on June 6th.  She and I were so very close and I miss her greatly.  Over the next week I developed some complications, which later was diagnosed as a stricture at the site of the anastomosis which caused a great deal of pain.  I ended up back in the hospital for 4 days.  I'm still having problems and will have the 2nd Flex Sig/dilation procedure tomorrow.  I pray that it works this time.

I can't believe that in a short 9 months I've come so far in reaching my weight loss goals.  I've said it before and I'll say it again:  having the gastric bypass is THE BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF!

5 months and WOW do I feel great!

Mar 23, 2008

I would have never believed that in only 5 months I would already feel so much better.  I'm down 72 pounds and 82 inches. I can climb stairs and still be able to breathe.  I can walk 2 miles and still keep going.  I'm wearing a large/XL in tops and a 16w pants.  I found homes for tons of size 22/24/2X clothes.  Even some of my shoes are feeling kinda big.

I actually look forward to summer, except for the inevitable skin issues that I had even before losing weight.  That's Ok, I'll document them and hopefully by next year, I can start the next journey towards getting that taken care of.

Well, I need to work on my scrapbook page for Month 5.....

Alice is in Onederland !

Jan 31, 2008

I finally arrived in Onederland and I'm still having a hard time believing it.  It has been many, many years since my scale has seen the 100s so I hope it's right.

I'm over half way to my goal now and it is a great feeling.
It's such a blessing to have had this surgery and be able to get healthy again!

3 Months Post op update

Jan 20, 2008

It is hard to believe it been 3 months since my surgery on Oct. 19th.  I have to say it's been a pretty smooth ride so far.  I've lost 57 pounds and 69 inches.  It's unbelievable.  I'm not hungy, I eat because I have to, I don't feel deprived at all, even for sweets.  I have had a bite or 2 of some desserts with no problems.  I'm saving so much money on food!

I have gone from a tight size 22/24 pants to a comfortable 18, I even have a pair of 16 pants that fit great.  I've gone from a 2x top to an XL.  I DON'T HAVE TO SHOP IN THE PLUS SIZE DEPARTMENT ANYMORE.  That is so great!

I'm off my blood pressure meds and the antidepressant meds.  Isn't that great?

My family and friends have been so supportive during this whole process.  I'm so lucky to have their love and support.  God has been so good to me.

Anyone thinking of having this surgery, it's been THE BEST decision I have ever made for my health.

God Bless!  Alice

Ready to go....

Oct 18, 2007

Well, the time has come for my surgery and I'm getting my bags packed and the house in order.   While I'm gone my kitchen floor will be tiled so I have that to look foward to when I get home.  YEAH!

I had a great last day at work.  Well, I was only there until lunchtme, but still it was great.  Lots of good wishes and hugs.  I'm so blessed to have great people to work with.

Thanks to all the great messages and prayers!

I'm in the short rows now...

Oct 14, 2007

It's Sunday night and I'm sitting here thinking about all I need to get done this week before Friday!  It is really hard to concentrate on anything other than my surgery and the new life afterwards.  I am so excited to finally get to this point.  This week will fly by so quickly and before I know it I'll be on the losers side of the journey.  I can't wait!

Tomorrow I will go with my DH to see a spine surgeon. He has 2 herniated discs in his lower back and is having lots of pain.  I'm really worried about him.  He has been through so much in the past 2 years battling cancer.  I just want him to be healthy.

The countdown begins...

Oct 06, 2007

Today is day 2 of the 14 day pre-surgery diet.  The OptiFast is tolerable but not necessarily enjoyable.  I have had some raw vegies and sugar free jello to add something to chew on.  I did good at lunch today when my DH and DD went to Ruby Tuesday.  I had my liquid lunch and ate some cucumbers, bell peppers and tomatoes off their salad plate (no dressing).

I'm really ready for Oct. 19th to get here and get the surgery over with.  I am ready to kick this journey into high gear.
