I made the decision to have WLS for several reasons. However, the main reason is because I want to be healthy. Buying smaller clothes was also an added perk. Over the past two years, I have watched several of my family members (including my mother)become ill (and some die) because of obesity related issues, and I made myself a promise that I would not fall victim to that. Most of my family is obese on both my mother and father side of the family, so I am genetically messed up. I just want to be healthy and have more energy, and that's it.
5/7/2008- Started Pre-op diet. Not used to drinking for meals, but now is the start of my new beggining. Weight as of this date was 262
5/19/2008- Went to see doc and nutritionist for my pre-op appointment. Expressed to the doctor how nervous I was,
and he reassured me that everything would be alright.
5/21/2008 My surgery date!!!!! When I arrived at the hospital, the nurse took my weight, and I had lost 8 pounds. YAY ME!!!!
Now, I am down to 254 pounds.
5/22/2008- Day after surgery and I am hating it. Very sore, and do not have an appetite. Just going to rest and relax. Gas pains weren't as bad as people said they would be.
5/26/2008- Had to call my doctor because I was dehydrated for not drinking anything for two days. So, he told me to come in and see him right away. Well, I made it there at around 3 o'clock and the first thing they always do is take your vitals and weigh you. Well I had lost another 7 pounds in less than a week. If I was feeling better, I would have kissed the nurse, doctor, patients, and everyone else. The doctor gave me some I.V fluids and made me stay at the hospital until I was able to hold some liquids down.
5/30/2008- Celebrated the holiday with family, and it was very hard being around all of that food. But, I did not touch any of it and I am proud of myself for that.
6/2/2008- Went to visit my primary doctor today for a allergic reaction that I got from taking flinestone vitamins, and when the nurse took my weight, I was down another 7 pounds. The scale read 240.4!!!! WOW, is all I could say. Everyone at the doctors office was excited for me.
6/9/2008- Went to see surgeon for my two-week post op appointment, and was a little pissed because of the wait. But, Dr Woodard always has a way of making you smile when you arrive in his office. I was also a little disappointed because I did not have anymore weight loss since the 2nd( maybe because my primary doctor put me on prednisone when I was there). But, I am satisfied with the 22 pound lost so far. Dr. Woodard examined my scars and asked me how I was feeling, and that was it. I am scheduled to go in on 6/30 for my six week post-op appointment, and my first fill. I will update then.
