My weight loss surgery journey actually started when I was pregnant with my daughter, A'lea, in the spring of 2003. I was about 33 weeks along and I went to the doctor for my asthma. The doctor I seen proceeded to tell me I was morbidly obese, which I already knew that, and I should consider WLS once my daughter was born. This was a very hard thing to hear, considering I was pregnant, my husband was about to deploy to Iraq for the first time, and I was still new to the area.   I weighed about 265.

Once my daughter was born and our lives were getting back to normal, I went to my doctor and ask about the WLS. I was given the referral for general surgery and it took about 3 months to see someone about WLS. Finally I saw general surgery, got all the referrals, completed all the referrals, and waited 2 years on the waiting list. Once my number rolled around, I chickened out. I was not comfortable with the gastric bypass. Plus my husband was on his 2nd deployment to Iraq and I have a real fear of pain & a tube being stuck down my throat. I know it is silly, but if it is going to happen, I would rather not know about it before hand.

Now, here I am, about two years have past. My husband is home full time now, my kids are older, and I am able to get the lap band. I figure it cant be any worse than having 2 c/s and a tubal, which I did in April 2006. I also decided this is my year, the year I focus on myself and my needs.

I am really excited about my WLS. I look forward to feeling better, no more aches and pains, and becoming the person I was 100+ lbs ago.
