Had my first FILL
Jun 06, 2008
I had my first fill and in was an interesting experience. The doctor put in 6cc and it was too much. You can't swallow a cup of water without it coming back up. He took out 1cc and was still too much. He took out another cc and was still too much. He then took another 2 cc, so after 4 needles we ended on 2cc. Apparently this was unusual but everyone truly is different.
My follow up doctor ( my surgeon was in Mexico) suggested I use his program which essentially is Atkins, excercise and Phentermine. Since I have tried Phentermine with little success and side effects not something I wanted to hear. Next appointment I am not comfortable with using medication - I chose the lap band after trying all those other methods - just does not seem right.
We will see what happend next!

Don't wait to get that first fill!!

My surgery was April 14 and I have my first fill scheduled for June 5. I waited too long!! I have not lost weight in a month and I get way too hungry..
Breaking bad habits is the current goals. 1. Eating slowly - there definitely are consequences it you don't. 2. No drinking while eating - I have basically broken this habit since the food immediately came back up if I did - It does not take long to break this habit when that happens. 3. Eating in the morning is difficult for me and I find I still am eating more in the evening - I still need to work on this one. 4. Healthy choices - It is easy to slip into bad habits when you find you can handle fatting foods - my vice is milkshakes since chewing is not the issue and they go down easily - too many shakes is definitely not a good diet. Even with the Band you still have to watch what you eat - The Band helps with hunger control , not cravins or sweet tooths.
I can't wait for my first fill!!!!

Back and home and trying not to eat
Apr 24, 2008
4/24/08 Down 36 pounds. Still on my liquid diet for another week. It is hard not eating and I found myself cheating a couple of times when cooking for my kids. However, my stomach definitely can't handle much. I ate a piece of meat and it felt like it was stuck in my throat so I tried to wash it down with water, well that just caused me to vomit immediately. That is why they say when you do eat you have to chew things to death. Plus you fill up so easily you feel uncomfortable. Since I am really limited to soups and other liquids I suggest eating GOOD SOUPS not just campbells tboring ype soups. Try basil tomato or other more flavorful soups so during the liquid stage you don't feel deprived. Also the week after surgery you are so full of gas you feel like you are going to explode at times - have Gax X on hand - it work great!
Check out the picture right after surgery - the largest incision is about 2 inches long.

I DID IT!

I was much simplier that I imagined. The actually surgery was only 20 minutes and I was up and walking within an hour of surgery. I felt a little gas but that is normal. When I was opened up, Dr. Ortiz found | had a hernia and fixed that for free! Dr. Ortiz is a charmer and not bad to look at either. I took a picture of the incisions and will post one when I return home. When planning to come to Tjianna giving yourself an extra day to sight see is enough, not alot to see. I am now on my liquid diet and I am not really hungry so it is Ok, hard part is seeing all the great food I can not have.
The hotel is beautiful and the staff are so nice and helpful. There were 7 people that had the surgery the same day and we got a chance to know each other and plan to keep in touch and share our progress.
No regrets!

I have lost 25 pounds, was shooting for 30 pounds pre-surgery.
I don't think I will make my goal but I know losing 25 pounds in 5 weeks is something to be proud of !
