plastic surgeon
May 27, 2009
KT and I had our consult with the plastic surgeon yesterday. He was very nice and made us feel very comfortable. He will do our tummy tuck first. He said that is considered reconstructive He will only do one procedure at a time. He wants to be sure we are happy with his work. My daughter will be 23 in august and Tri-care will drop her unless we convince them to extend her coverage, so we have to get everything she needs done as soon as possible. We are going to try and have it done at the same time just like our WLS.

my journey
Apr 03, 2009
I have my daughter to thank for this journey. At the begining of last summer my daughter saw a picture of one of her friends from high school. She was amazed at the transformation of her friend. She inquired about the change an discovered WLS. She said mom you have got to see the change. My daughter was excited and wanted to know everything she could about WLS. My daughter is beautiful but she was overweight and felt that her weight was a burden. She is in college and one day will be Dr. KT She did not have the medical problems but was well on her way. I am an overweight diabetic with blood pressure problems. My quality of life was on a down hill slide straight to an early casket visit. KT was determined to do something about our weight problems. So she did the research and discovered that our insurance would cover the cost. This made her more determined. She convinced me to to at least go to the seminar with her. The more I listen to her the more I thought this may be the right thing to do. I considered the lap band but KT's mind was made up on RNY. Our next big hurddle was getting the insurance to pay for the surgery. To our surprise we were approved before we were financial ready to pay the co-pay. After speaking with the insurance company they recomended we cahnge from Tri-Care standard to Tri-Care prime. The change meant our co-pay would only be 22.00 a piece. Well no more excuses everything was all set. The surgery date was Sept. 10, 2008. I was still not so sure about this whole thing, that is until they took my daughter into surgery. At that point I could not take her to the dance and leave her there. She went first becasue I wanted to know everything was ok with her before I went in. We arranged to share the hospital room. Things went well for me but my daughter had some problems. The scar tissue around her esophagus closed it off and she starting throwing up. They scoped her three times but she continued throwing up. Then her gall bladder went crazy and they removed that, but she continued to throw up. The last time she was in the hospital for 14 days. She could not keep anything down, finally they put in a central line and gave her nutrients that way. The funny thing about that is she had surgery to get rid of fat and they gave her a bottle of fat. Well anyway she is better now. My weight three months before surgery was 280 on the day of my weight was 251. I am down to 169. KT's weight on the day of surgery was 312 today she is 240.
