My Story
Jun 23, 2007
I always thought of myself as fat from as young as I can remember. I don't know how it started or why it started--but that is always how I precieved myself. My friends in elementary school and middle school were the twig girls. I wore a size 12-14 in 8th/9th grade and one "friend" told everyone my "huge size" after I went shopping with her one time. That was the first time I remember anyone really confirming how I felt about myself all those years. Then I started driving in 10th grade and that meant lunches off campus. Fast food and straches (sp?) were my daily diet. When I graduated I was about a size 16-18 and around 180 pounds and felt huge.
Throughout college I just kept piling it on. Between taking 18 credits and working 20-30 hours a week, all I did was stop at fast food joints for my meals. I don't remember weighing myself between then and 6 years later when I weighed 268. My degrees were finished and I finally got on a regular schedule and I lost 70 pounds in 8 months through riding my bike, not eating fast food, and then later WW online. I was so proud of myself and said that I'd never get up that high again. Well--you know how that goes. I kept the weight off for about a year and then some meds (don't you hate it when meds help yet hinder!) helped me put on 10 pounds within a week. Then another 10 when I switched jobs. Then another 10 when I moved to Arizona. Then 40+ when I wrote my thesis! Next thing I knew, I was higher than what I was before I lost all that weight! I was devasted and discourged.
I had heard of the lapband surgery a few years back and was interested right away, but after I finished my masters degree in the summer of 2006 and was back up at my highest weight ever, I decided it was time. I'm self-pay, but I knew it was a life-time, life-saving investment to put my money into myself and my health.
(7/23/07) It is now almost 8 months later and I'm down 70 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm almost in onederland and I LOVE MY BAND!!! (And this board!)

7.5 months with no problems...and then a bit of a scare
Jun 23, 2007
I had an upper GI done this week because my doc was worried that I possibly had a band slip. Thankfully, it turns out that the band just got REALLY tight suddenly (no reason for sure) and then swelled badly from some PB incidents. I was on a liquid diet for almost 5 days and now I'm back to soft foods. I went 7.5 months with NO problems whatsoever and this little scare was more than enough for me. I feel like a brand-new bandster as I am so careful at what I am eating. It's a good reminder for me.
