Thanks for looking at my profile. My name is Marie and I am 26 years old. I have been overweight all my life, starting as a chubby child, but really piling on the weight in my late teens / early twenties. Over the years I have tried loads of diets, done weight watchers, had sibutramine (Sp?) etc. I started looking into weight loss surgery about 2 years ago - at first I had my doubts, I didn't know if I could go through with an operation for weight loss, it seemed so extreme, however I kept it in the back of mind, did lots of research and chatted to people who had experienced the surgery, and finally, decided it was right for me.
I went to see my Doctor and he thought the surgery would be an excellent option for me and referred me to the specialist surgeon.
My family are very supportive, of course they had concerns, but we have gone through all the literature together, watched the surgery videos etc and I know I can count on them for support.
My operation will be self pay. In a way because it is going to cost so much money, I think it will be an extra motivation to suceed.
Now I am just counting down the days to my 1st consultation with the surgeon (sept 10th)
