I started gaining weight at about age 18.  I got an office job, got myself a car and started to sit a lot more than I did previously.    Looking back I'm not sure why I didn't do something about the weight when it was an easier 25 lbs to lose.  Here I am, almost 51 years old and I now have a massive amount of weight to lose.  Almost embarrassed to admit that my weight has now ballooned up to about 350 lbs.
I've decided I need help to point me in the right direction and have decided (with several doctors encouraging) to have the gastric bypass surgery.  I have now been to my information sessions, have met with the surgeon, internist and have been to a GBS class.  In January I will meet with the social worker, dietician and a nurse clinician.  I've been told that I could quite possibly have the surgery as soon as February/March of 2012.

I've been married for 28 years, been together for 33, we have 3 great kids aged 23, 20 and 18.  I'm currently not working outside of the home.  My interests include cardmaking, scrapbooking, reading and genealogy to name a few.  I'm also a huge Bo Bice fan and enjoy travelling to his shows to see him LIVE and to meet up with my other "bofriends."

I'm hoping this surgery will allow me to lose enough weight to kick start me back into living again.  There's so much that I cannot do now that I used to and it really bothers me.  Simple things like gardening, housework, interior decorating jobs in my house, walking.

I'm hoping to use this site as an online journaling centre.  Somewhere to voice my opinions/ideas out loud and perhaps receive feedback or just to have it as a spot for me to go back and reread and reflect.

My new motto in life is to be:
I want to eat to live, not live to eat.
