Weight Management and Metabolic Center - Columbia

"Overall, everyone was very caring and interested in how I was and what I needed (besides Dietary-they sent chicken broth the first time and when told to send veggie broth, they sent beef broth). I was in the step down unit immediately after surgery but they encouraged my visitors to stay until I kicked them out. They were thorough in their assessments and made sure, at each shift change that the RN and nursing Tech names were changed on the white boards in each of the rooms. They tried not to disturb me if they did not need to. The rooms were clean and when I used the call bell someone answered right away and got me what I needed. There is new construction going on but I did not hear much of it but friends said the parking was poor."

"My first impression was, \"My God, she is so young!\" I had originally wanted Dr. Scott because of his reputation and his clinic times. The staff asked me to meet her and see what I thought. After spending more time with her in the first consultation, I was sold. Dr. Fearing is warm and has a great sense of humor; she did not talk down to me and even shared some personal information. On the way out that day, I decided she was going to be my surgeon. On the second visit, she was just as she was the visit before but she was efficient it letting me know all of the risks. I am having surgery in a couple of days, so I'll post after that to talk about surgery and post-op care (which she and the rest of the clinical staff really super big on). The office staff have always treated me very well and Leslie, the insurance guru, was fabulous. Natalie, the nurse, is great and her mantra is \"Don't make me hunt you down.\" She wants to be called with any problems you have whether before the surgery, in the hospital, or post-op. The dietician is great and is working with me on my vegetarian diet. Support groups are led by RN, dietician, or psychologist. So far, all I can say is FABULOUS, FABULOUS, FABULOUS! They have hired a Bariatrician to help us with diet and exercise issues. One negative, the four hour class was more like five and a half."

"At first, I thought I'd get the "to lose weight you need to eat less and exercise more." She was extremely supportive and talked about the newest research on the genetics of obesity and how hard she has seen me work at trying to lose weight only to gain back more weight. While she did not have to write a letter to the surgeon's office she stated that she wanted to and sent me a copy of it. When I was rejected by the insurance company (only the first time) she was quick to write another letter that impressed the surgeon and the surgeon's staff with her clarity and discussion of what I have been doing under her supervision for the past two years (they only needed one year). Just a note, I still have not received the certified letter from the insurance company but my appeal is in thanks to her thoughtfulness and dedication (and that of my surgeon's office."

"I am also a psychologist so it can be ackward for one psychologist to see another. I thought I had thoroughly researched the surgery but she gave me even more information and several websites (with a special emphasis on my looking at this one). She was extremely well informed, appeared caring, and listened to what I had to say. She understood the underlying psychological issues that one might go through after the surgery. We also talked about ways of dealing with difficult times after surgery. I will be e-mailing and talking to her if I need additional support after surgery."
