I am 53 Years young with a great family and support Group, I have been overweight since my teens. I have the greatest wife in the world. I am a old time paramedic since 1978. lots of fast food and eating on the run so to speak. I have co-morbidities all related to my weight. Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and joint disease. I have ben able to loose weight easily all my life but do not have the discipline to keep it off. I had a lap band installed in 2006 (from 435 down to 300), and it worked well till January of 2011, then I started refluxing everything. Between then and December of 2012 I had 7 fills/ un-fills any fluid in the band caused a severe reflux problems, I had 2 upper GI's and finally a EDI in December nothing technically wrong with the band. Decided on attempting a revision from band to sleeve (no my insurance does not pay for a DS) I gathered all the support documentation, Letter from PCP, Letter form Ortho Doctor, had blood work, EKG, PFT, and chest X-ray. Paperwork submitted to Humana on February 18, and APPROVED by noon on the 19th. Final surgery consult on the 22nd, PAT on the 5th of March Surgery scheduled on the 13th of March. WOW The 2 week preop diet id no fun but I will make it.
