Whoa, its been a minute hasn't it?

Feb 10, 2010

This will be my latest update since about 1 1/2 years. Lets just say things are going good. As far as my weight I did get as low as 189 lbs but wasn't happy with my muscle tone, I felt I was getting too skinny, if there is such a thing.  I did hit a couple of bumps in the road where my weight got up to about 225lbs. I wasn't alarmed though because I was training to gain muscle mass and my body fat percentage never got above 11%. Today I stepped on the scale and it was 205lbs. My goal is to be around 190-195lbs while maintaining a body fat percentage of around 8-9%.  Here are my current stats: 205lbs, size Med-Lrg shirts, 33-34inch waist, shoe size down to 10 1/2 from a 12. As far as life itself, things couldn't be much better, I just celebrated my 5 year wedding anniv with my wife Jenilee, we renewed our vows in Las Vegas at the Little white chapel, lets just say if you have seen the movie "The Hangover" then you know how it went down...4 words: Powder Blue Tuxedo TShirt!!! We have been together 12 years total and she has supported me in everything I have been through during my weight loss. I finally joined an MMA school and have been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. Its such a killer workout and to be able to hang with these 18-19 year old kids is challenging but fun. I just know this wouldn't have been possible if I was still 400lbs. I plan top compete in a BJJ tournament sometime this year but have just been enjoying learning something new.  That's it for now, hopefully it wont be another 1 1/2 years before I check in again!

Its slowing down, need to CRANK IT UP

Jul 07, 2008

Just heard back from my docs office and the results from my last sleep study came in. I officially do not have sleep apnea anymore. I haven't been on a CPAP since March but recently went to get checked and its all good now. So I know I should be happy about that but I have had my slowest weight loss since the start of this whole WLS. I have only lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. But I know it has to do with what I am eating latley. I have been consuming more calories and my doc has said it will happen since I am supporting an intense workout schedule. I know its just time to go back to basics, push water and protien. I know I had some stuff I shouldn't have during this past 4th of July weekend, but at least I realized it and still that is no excuse. I hit the workouts hard this weekend but I have another test coming up. Im going to another bachelor party this weekend of the 11th and I definitely have to be on top of my game again. Still I believe I can get through these challenges and still make my numbers.

6 months is here

Jun 18, 2008

Here I am, 6 months out from surgery and I couldnt be happier. Well I could be a little bit happier, I wanted to be down to 220lbs at 6 months which would have meant I had to lose 138lbs by today. Currently I tip the scales at 233lbs which is down 125lbs since surgery. I cant complain at all and I know I shouldnt base everything solely on scale numbers. I currently wear a L/XL shirt and 36 inch pants. That is coming from someone who use to struggle to fit into a 4XL shirt and 48/50 inch waist pants. Fitness wise I am seeing muscles that I haven't seen since I was 15 years old. I feel awesome and have enormous amounts of energy now. I hit the mountain bike trails once a week, I weight train with my personal trainer 4 times a week and plan on joining an MMA school this summer. I am also able to do things I thought were no longer possible. I have ridden in a plane without an extender, shopped at normal clothes stores, etc. Im also interested in becoming a certified personal trainer now. My weight loss has inspired others in my circle of friends and my wife to get in better shape. But a couple things stand out to me as I reach this 6 month mark. One is my wife can now put her arms completely around me which she never was able to do and I can play non-stop with my 2 year old daughter without getting winded. That is the reason I did this, to be around longer for my family and so far my chances are better than they were before.

Coming up on 6 months

Jun 04, 2008

I am about 2 weeks away from being 6 months out of surgery and even though I have dropped 118lbs since surgery, I always feel I can do better. The scale has started to slow down which really sucks. Although my doc and trainer said it would happen since I am taking in more calories to support my workout, I still would like to see better numbers. I have also started to eat more of a variety of foods to be able to survive in the real world but there have been times I ate things I shouldn't have. Overall I know everything should be based on bodyfat and not just the number on the scale but still I know I can do better. My goal is to be down 130lbs when I hit the 6 month mark which is 12 lbs in 2 weeks. Time to hit the workouts harder. Im gonna do this...

King of the Hill!

May 08, 2008

Just wanted to post an update on whats been goin on with me. I recently bought a new mountain bike, a 2008 Giant anthem with full suspension, disc brakes, all the bells and whistles. This is what I will be doing on the days off from my personal trainer. I used to mountain bike back in high school but I figure now with my new found fitness and lighter weight, I could tackle something more serious than cruising down the street to get the mail. Yeseterday, I attacked some trails with some buddies in Sycamore canyon in Malibu: http://www.dirtworld.com/trails/trail.asp?id=12562

Lets just say it kicked my ass but we rode a little under 20 miles which included some cool singletrack trails, just think a roller coaster for bikes, a steep 1.5mile incline that is named hell hill, (but my buddies call it the black bitch) and an awesome descent back down where we reached about 35-40 mph. I feel acomplished but can't wait to go back and conquer the black bitch. I had to stop twice to catch my breath but my goal is to do it without stopping. Oh yeah for my latest stats, I haven't weighed myself in awhile but stat day is coming up with my trainer where they get measurements and weight loss. All I know is right now I am floating between XL/XXL shirts and down to a 38"/40" waist. I feel great and can't wait until next week when me and my buddies go back to the trails!

1 year since the start of my journey

Apr 22, 2008

A year ago today is when I came home from Dr Billy's WLS seminar and decided that it was time for a change. I remember talking with my wife about finally doing something about my weight that would last. Also I remember weighing myself and seeing an all time high of 390lbs. Now I stand here today weighing in at 260lbs, what I weighed in 8th grade, and with no health problems. I look back at some of my pictures when I was bigger and it keeps me motivated to never go down that road again.  I've learned so much about myself since then and continue to learn everyday. I am only 4 months out from my GBP surgery and know I still have many challenges to face but I thank God for where I am today.

APRIL Showers!

Apr 07, 2008

Well things are going ok. Weight lost has slowed down a bit as I am now eating a little more to support my workout regime. I still hope to hit the 100lbs lost mark when my 4 month surgiversary comes. I weighed in this morning at 268lbs. And per the tanitia scale at my Docs office I have gained 5 pounds of muscle since my last check up. Cant complain at all as my BMI and bodyfat% has improved along with my clothes still getting looser by the week. I started run/walking 1.5 miles 3 times a week and also using heavier freeweights. My next test is coming up this week when I leave for a 2 week vacation to Orlando Florida. Going to do the Disneyworld thing for my 2 year old daughter so it should be fun except for the rain that is supposed to hit this Sat. So I have to lose 10 pounds in the next couple of weeks, on vacation to hit my 100lbs. No need to wish me luck because I'm gonna knock this out no problem!

March Madness

Mar 03, 2008

Almost at 3 months out and there are some new things goin on since my last post. First off I celebrated my 32 birthday and decided to treat myself to a new Toyota Tundra. I've always wanted a truck and they gave me a good deal at my local dealer where my family has always shopped for cars. I've also started working out 4 times a week with a new personal trainer and I guess it's working because I am seeing muscle where it wasn't visalbe before. I am now down to 286lbs and wearing a size 40 waist pants and floating between XL and 2XL shirts. Still figuring out what I can eat without gettin an upset stomach but I figure that will be goin on forever!

This cant be right???

Feb 16, 2008

I was going to keep it down to one post per month but this one I couldn't wait for. I woke up today and before my morning workout I jumped on the scale. My scale talks so I dont have to look down. It said, "HELLO, Im READY," Then I stepped on waited for an ETERNITY.....then the talking scale spoke...."two hundred ninety eight pounds..." WHAT??? I had to do it again and the results were the same, I AM OUT OF THE 300s!!!!! The last time I weighed under 300lbs I was 14 years old.  Ss far im down 92bs from my biggest weight of 390 and down 60lbs since the surgery. I went from a size 50 waist to a size 42w and from wearing a 4XL shirt to wearing 2XL in a little over 2 months. And this is just the beginning! This is fricking crazy! WOO HOO!!!!

Here I am about 6 1/2 weeks out from RNY surgery and this is my first blog. I am down 56lbs so far but the thing that blows me away is my increased energy and how my clothes are way too big for me now. I've been working out on the eliptical and doing weights with some kickboxing mixed in so my excercising has been good. I made it through the holidays and just recently Superbowl sunday but my biggest test is this weekend, FEB 7-11. Im goin to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. I'm just going to be as strong as I can but I really am looking forward to taking a break with just the fellas. Since I cant beat up the buffets anymore maybe I will just put all my money on RED.
