Almost 2 years..update

Jul 21, 2011

Weird, I haven't been on here for a while.  It is funny how once you loose the weight, you stop focusing on it.. you start living life!
And I have been living!  Besides starting the Local Kids Network (USLocalKids.com) I've also become a travel agent (just got my Disney Graduation Cap and Ears today!)

I've been traveling, cruising, building companies, homeschooling my daughter, bought another house, and hanging out by the pool.  I am on 1 pill per day for my diabetes - and have been a stable weight of around 135 - 140 for the last year.

Who knows..maybe I will set up a cruise for people who have had weight loss surgery..it would be fun!

Yep, it is here.  I've been horrible about writing, but I've been busy.  I now weight 139 lbs well below my goal of 150.  My body mass is 22.53.. way down as well.  If I lost this extra skin - there goes another 10 plus pounds and probably 2 clothes sizes.  I've gone from a 22 to a 12 is.  Depending on the cut I can get into 8/10 on the bottom and 12/14 on the top.  My boobs didn't shrink as much as my butt and waist..so.. I now buy separates.

I'm happy, busy, and running about 6 businesses and teaching classes about working from home.  I don't think it was that I changed a food obsession to a work one.. I think it is that I now have the energy to do what I was meant to do. :)

Still going down

Dec 02, 2009

I am 10 weeks out and have lost 48 lbs...so close to 50.  I started out in clothes size 20/22 and now I'm wearing 16s.  WOW.  Plus I no longer need my wrist brace for corporal tunnel... it seems like it just went away!  They didn't tell me about that positive point.  Who knows what weight screws up for your body.

I had lasik surgery 2 weeks ago.  No more glasses after 30 some years!  Another WOW.  I am definitely starting to look different.  Give me 2 more months and people I haven't seen in a while won't even know me LOL.

Fighting the Flu and loosing weight

Oct 27, 2009

Yep, being sick must help..because I've lost a lb a day for the last 3 days since I got the flu.
On Saturday I got to the 100s :) at 199.
On Sunday I got the flu.
By Tuesday morning (today) I weight in at 196.
I am eating.  I haven't thrown up yet, so that isn't the issue.
I did a great work out last week at the gym, but then got sick and haven't gotten back.
Anyway, I still feel like crap and being home a 2nd day in a row isn't making me any happier.
But at least I have some time to update things and get working on my new business plan.  If only my head would stop hurting long enough to think clearly!

I went to a local support group.  It was interesting.  I thought they focused a little too much on things we couldn't have and things they missed rather than positive steps forward.  I can home with tons of head hunger for things I never even use to eat..but other people missed and they were on the 'bad' list now.  I generally don't have those issues on  a day to day basis.  But I will give it another shot next month.

I have been wanting some 'comfort' food while I've been sick.  I wanted to curl up on the couch with hot chocolate and popcorn with a blanket.  I settled for hot chocolate protein mix w/milk.  Nasty.  Do not heat the walmart brand of protein it turns really nasty!
I'll keep working at it with other brands.

27 lbs..and back on insulin

Oct 15, 2009

Well I had to start taking some insulin daily since once I started on thicker liquids and mush my blood sugars started to rise.  I am really hoping with exercise and weight loss I can get back off of the insulin.  I think adding the insulin contributed to the lack of weight loss this last week.

My first 25 lbs...and still no diabetic meds

Oct 03, 2009

I got home Thurs night at midnight, it is now Saturday.  I finally got batteries for the wii fit board to discover that I have lost a total of 25 lbs!!!
8 pre op and the rest in the last 10 days.  Did not expect it to fall off that quickly.
But I have been doing light exercising, walking, etc.

I started on creamy liquids today and am enjoying my first tomato soup right now.  I may take me this whole hour to get through a 1/4 cup, but that is ok - it taste delicious!!!!

My blood sugars have moved from the low 100s to 130  - 140 ish...so I am still not taking meds.  I really hope they improve as I continue to lose weight and can start doing heavier exercise in 2 weeks.

By the Pool - recovering

Sep 28, 2009

Sitting poolside watching my daughter practice her spanish with a mexican family in the villa behind ours...5 days after surgery :)
We arrived in Puerto Vallarta on Monday the 21st.  Pretty uneventful - the typical my daugher throwing up on the plane etc.  One glitch, we never found the driver who was suppose to take us to the Krystal, so we took a cab for $16.

On Tuesday we went snorkling and diving out at Los Arcos, lots of fun, but I only had energy for one round of snorkling since I had only been eating 700 calories or less for 2 weeks.  Lost 8 lbs all together by the way.  So I went from 231 at the start to 223 presurgery.  I won't weight myself again until I get home.

Wed was the surgery.  I went in at 10:30 and had the surgery at 4.  I was back in my room around 8.  Very groggy.  Gave husband and daughter kisses, and went back to sleep.  The nurses were good about keeping up with my blood sugar levels, and pretty responsive to my needs.  I wouldn't say it is above the US hospital stays - but very comparabile.

Thursday I walked some, stayed in bed alot, took pain meds pretty regularly.
Friday.. I was up and around, and wanted out.   Saturday they said I could go home one day early.. I was dressed and packed by 10 and finally finished paperwork and out by 2.

Sunday we went walking and shopping.  I walked very slowly, but for about 3 hours...
Monday we did a tour of a local resort and got $250 and breakfast for about 4 hours of time.  We didn't buy.

Tomorrow we are going to release turtles at the beach and I think Wed we are going to take a tour in the jungle.

I know I have a high tolerance for pain, but still - I can not imagine why anyone would need to take 6 weeks to recover from this surgery.   It has been so much easier than both my gall bladder removal and my C-section.

I'm sipping clear protein shakes (nectars) mixed with water; eating sf pops, and sf jello, and broth.  No problems.  I just walk with a water or shake at all times.  It takes me 2 or more hours to get through a shake - but it also has water, so I am hoping it can count for both :)

BEST NEWS OF ALL.. the highest blood sugar I have had in 3 days is 108!!!!! and NO MEDS AT ALL!!!!!!

Pre-op Day #5

Sep 12, 2009

Ok, I've found a few challenges... one is my blood sugars are pretty low from my lack of food.  I'm testing often and dropping my insulin intake, but I HATE the feeling of being hypoglycemic and it makes me want to run to the refrigerator and eat.  I haven't done anything off the diet except a frozen lemon ice the other night when my BS was 60... but it wasn't too bad.

The other challenge is I've been doing this 5 days, the first two I lost 4 lbs, and nothing since.  I haven't eaten over 800 calories per day yet, you'd think I would be loosing the weight.

I'm still hungry but things are getting a  little better.  I do miss 'chewing' since everything in my mouth has been liquid.. I've munched on some sf icey pops... but not really the same.
I still think it will be easier after the surgery, my stomach will be smaller and I will be recovering - and I never feel like eating after I have had surgery in the past!

I did have another challenge yesterday, an emotional pull to the refrigerator when I was upset about something that happened at a walmart.  I was pushing my daughter in a shopping cart in a parking lot and a woman backing out of the space didn't look back and almost hit us with her car.  I screamed and yelled, and finally kicked her car to get her to stop - she was about a foot from us....  my daughter was hysterical and though I kept stopping while shopping to comfort her, it was still tramatic., especially for her.  She is 6.   Later I got her a shake at a Dairy Queen, but sipped on water - though I really wanted some comfort food myself.

Pre-op Day #3

Sep 10, 2009

I have not yet chewed off my arm...but it is looking rather tasting.  I broke today and ate a grape.. I know, 1 grape, but still.
I have lost 4 pounds in 2 days. I have been putting up displays with Mike for 4 hours each day, and that isn't easy work.  Plus I have been working out on wii fit.  So it might not all be water weight.  I have been eating about 700 calories PER DAY.  I'm pretty sure I use to eat that at a meal!

Anyway, I have cut my insulin and metformin in 1/2.  I'm not eating so it doesn't have to adjust for me.  I'm am trying to delay my insulin delivery to help account for the slower processing protein rather than the fast acting carbs.  I think it is working, the highest I've been in 3 days is 150 and I've been checking regularly.

I have an appointment next week with my endocronologist to go over last minute changes with my insulin and medication prior to surgery.

Basically my diet has consisted of
Breakfast - protein shake w/soy milk
snack - crystal light hunger packet w/water
lunch - protin shake w/water
snack - crystal light w/for metabolism or immunity
dinner - broth or miso soup & glass of soy milk
dessert - non fat yogurt w/protein mix & SF Jello
right before bed - glass of soy milk

(and today..add in 1 grape)

And it begins... Pre-op Day #1

Sep 08, 2009

460 ... 460 calories is how much I have eaten today..and it is almost 8 pm.  I have had 40 carbs (usually I eat that in one sitting) 70 protein and 3 fat.   I told my husband I may just have to start chewing off my arm if the hunger gets worse!
I had 2 protein drinks, nf soy milk, bowl of broth, and crystal light hunger packets.  I am saving my last protein shake and some sf jello for this evening so I'm not completely starved while sleeping.

I am trying to figure out my insulin boluses and my metformin dosage since I don't want to drop too low because I'm eating 1/4 of my normal food intake.  I haven't given myself a meal bolus all day and just keeping checking and adjusting (it swung low twice).  Plus I cut my dinner metformin in half.  After researching it, I am going to give myself a small bolus 1 hour AFTER I eat to try to adjust for the large amount of protein.  We'll see how that goes.

The worse part of the day was grocery shopping for the rest of the family (I already stocked up on my foods) and cooking for them.  I swear I actually started salivating at a loaf of italian bread that was being given away as samples in the grocery store.

Anyway.. despite my bitching, I'm really happy with the day and the fact I didn't cheat at all.  I hope this means I'm off to a good start.

The other happy thing.. despite the fact I spent all weekend heavily eating things I wouldn't be able to eat anymore, or for a while; I only gained one pound... so I am starting the process at 231 according to the wii fit.
