Okay, so I am sure my story is very similar to everyone else's. I was an average child, an athletic teen and after marriage and 2 kids, I began gaining weight. And trying to lose it. Then losing it. Then finding it again. And the cycle continued for about 15+ years with less weight coming off but more finding it's way back on. I was at the end of my rope. I saw no hope of losing and maintaining a healthy weight even possible for me. Not ever. Gastric bypass was not an option I wanted to consider. My health was never really a big issue but I have an overweight father and brother with diabetes and high blood pressure. My father had a heart attack at 48 years old. He is 59 years old now but on lots of meds. My brother is 1 year older than me and also on meds. I was afraid to follow their path. I also started to feel the extra weight take its toll on my bones and the rest of my body.
I heard about the Lap Band before and decided to do some research. After talking with my husband and family, I decided to go to a seminar in mid-July. It took a lot for me to go to the seminar because the Lap Band was not covered under my insurance. I was very pleasantly surprised at the seminar when I found out my insurance was now covering it and RNY. My insurance had requirements to approve and I already had the majority done. I saw my PCP and he agreed. I just had to see the psychiatrist and the dietician. That took place over the next 2 months and on Oct. 5 received my approval from my insurance along with the date of October 27 for the surgery.
I have a very loving and supportive husband and 2 teenage daughters. I just turned 39 in September. I want to live a long and healthy life. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. My ray of hope.
