I have been slightly overweight my entire life. I was a very active child and teenager and managed to keep my weight in check, but was always a bit "chunky". Through my adult life I have successfully lost large amounts of weight many, many times, but have NEVER not been overweight. My weight has slowly crept up through the years. As I gain it becomes harder to be active and easier to have binges to "feel better". I had my kids in 2005 and 2007 and my weight didn't change too much, but after 2 pregnancies and 2 c-sections my body did. I am so much less toned and tight and in the last year I went from being more or less healthy to becoming insulin dependent, high blood pressure, severe lower back pain and acid reflux.
I started looking into weight loss surgery in 2008. I attended a seminar for the local hospital and filled out all of the paperwork to discover that my companies health plan had an exclusion. I have searched for more than 2 years for an alternative and had no luck. My husband recently changed jobs and his health plan covers weight loss surgery. It is the first ounce of hope I have had and I am starting the process full force once again.
