Playing the Insurance Approval Game
Jan 06, 2013
Hi, I'm fat as hell and not happy about it. I've mastered the art of dieting...but completely suck at keeping the weight off. My mom and two sisters also have piglet tendencies, and all three have had gastric bypass. I'm opting for the sleeve.
I saw my doctor for the first time on Nov. 6 2012. My BMI was barely at the insurance required magic number of 40. My first insurance request was denied, and they are now requiring proof of 6 months of a doctor supervised weight loss program. So lame. I've been dieting for 20 years! But whatever.
My surgeon is 130 miles away from me, so I am seeing my "diet pill doc" in my home town, then emailing a note from him showing my weight to the nutritionist that works with my surgeon. I then have an over-the-phone appointment with her. The problem is...I cannot lose ONE pound, or my BMI will drop and I won't qualify. So basically...I feel like a total loser every time I go weigh in.
We are planning to submit another request in Feb. and I'm very anxious and nervous that I will once again be denied. Anyone else go through anything similar??
