I started my journey about 4 1/2 years ago. I started out researching WLS in early 2004 and was scheduled for surgery October 3, 2005. I have had a few problems since my original surgery with hernias and ulcers but I don't think I would ever go back and not have it done! The morning of surgery I weighed 296lbs. I started losing weight rapidly which I thought was the whole point of the surgery! But come to find out I was losing too much, too fast. I got down to 124lbs in about 8 months. I was very unhealthy. I had to be hospitalized and be put on a feeding tube. I finally stopped losing and gained a few pounds back. Now 3 years later I am at 145 and I am very happy with that! I am not fat and Im not malnutritioned either!
If you are unsure whether you should have the surgery...just listen to your heart (& your doctor lol) I didn't have the support of my family when I made my decision to have WLS...so I just listened to my heart. I don't think I would be here if I hadn't had it done. Do what you want that will benefit you and the ones you love! Good luck to everyone! And God Bless!
