Hi Annette, I think I'm the one you read about regarding the blood thinners. I had my surgery June 25, and I am taking blood thinners. They are injections, and I have to take them for 12 days. I have never been diagnosed with clots, but because of my weight, 348 pds, sleep apnea, and hypertension, my surgeon thinks I'm high risk for them. As another precaution, I had a filter inserted. It catches blood clots. The procedure is usually done two weeks prior to surgery on an out patient basis. It is a permanent filter that was inserted in my neck, (jugular vein), and once the catheter was down in my stomach area, the filter was released. There are two common types, Greenfield filter and trapeze filter. You may want to talk to your surgeon about this. I do try to walk every so often, it helps my backache. Good luck to you, and remember to research any questions you may have.
