Almost 10 months post op

Oct 30, 2009

Well, it has been approximately 4 months since I've blogged.  I can't believe how the months are flying by.  The last time I blogged, I was 203 lbs.  I am now 184 lbs and have been stuck at that weight for about a month now.  I am able to eat sooo much more than in the beginning and it gets scary.  I still haven't started tracking my food and keeping a food journal.  I tried to do so and did it for one day, ugh!  I really need to make that a habbit.  I do NOT want to have gone through all of this just to make bad eating choices, create bad habits again, and gain it all back.  The surgery is just a tool...it does not change my thinking!
Lately I have been worried about the intake of food and if my pouch is stretching back out.  I realistically had to think about the type of foods I am eating and the amounts I am putting away when I eat.  All in all, I eat pretty healthy with some bad choices.  I do overeat once in a while, but that is rare and not daily.  So I have to stop stressing out sooo much and just make good choices each day.  It is a struggle!
My goals this month are to start tracking my calories, food choices, and write it all down.  Also, I want to start creating a menu for the week to eliminate last minute food choices.  My life is really busy right now so I have to prepare big time!
I'm still greatful that I had the surgery and want to start exercising and enjoy life more.  I can do tons of more activities and hang with the best of them now!  I am also in a size 14 pant, and medium to large top...which I haven't seen those sizes in decades.  It feels great to have people compliment me and have guys looking...but I am still not used to getting this type of attention.  Its exciting and scary at the same time.  I can't believe I used to wear a size 24/26 in both top and bottom!  wow, amazing.  I didn't realize how big I was til I saw pictures.  How embarrassing!
Well, I will update on how I am handling my goals in a few weeks to a month.  Wish me luck!  I need to get on the ball asap~!!!!

almost 6 months post op

Jun 21, 2009

I am now almost 6 months post  op and feeling like Im walking on clouds...I feel soo much lighter!  I started at 289lbs before the surgery, was at 272lbs on the day of surgery, and am now 203lbs.  Now-a-days foods are going down way to easy and so are liquids.  This is the time I think I really need to buckle down and make good food choices.  I haven't been measuring my food or keeping a food journal so I am going to start tomorrow.  It is nice to have all the compliments people give me who haven't seen me in a while...it's also hard to take them too!

I haven't had any complications throughout this process other than the narrowing and having to have a procedure done at almost 4 weeks post op.  But that fixed all the issues and have been great ever since.  The only complaint I have is the change in taste of foods for me.  Some things I can't taste the flavor of...ie pasta, rice.  But I need to stay away from those foods anyways.

All my clothes are way too big so I just have 4 tops and 2 bottoms and thats it!  At this point I refuse to spend tons of money on a new wardrobe when I will still lose more weight!  Economic times are rough!!!

So all in all, everything is going great and at this point I can finally say I would make the same decision to have the surgery.  I feel 100 times healthier and can do more things than I have done in decades.  My daughter and I race to the door or the car...Im not sweating or out of breath!  I love it!  The lose skin on my arms is outrageous though.  I should of exercised more after the surgery but am starting to now!  I know I will have to have the skin removed on my arms for sure...ugh!

On my 2nd week

Jan 17, 2009

I had the gastric bypass last Friday.  Coming off of the medicine and the pain meds they gave me was hell.  I had an anxiety attack and had to stay an extra day.  After that, its been great!  I feel hungry though and cant quinch my thirst.  I have been following all rules and can't wait to eat some food!  I have lost 11 lbs in 5 days.

Information about my surgery

Sep 27, 2008

I finally had my surgery on January 9th, 2009.  The only issues I had were from the meds...had a bad anxiety attack and had to stay in the hospital another day.  The doctor said the pain meds they gave me had a bad reaction.  Otherwise, all is going fairly well.  I came home 2 days after surgery and was really sore.  After about 4 days, I felt much better and was up and around.  I did make sure I walked every day even though I was sore.  Today has been 8 days and I am down 11 lbs.  I started at 269 and am now 258.  And that was as of my first post-op doctor visit 5 days after.   A lot of my friends and family can tell I have lost weight and that feels good.

The first weeks no food, just liquids was horrible.  I saw others eating and couldn't eat.  But I followed the rules and just sipped on water, broth, and crystal light.   Don't think I will ever have broth again.  Now I am on mashed potatoes and oatmeal.  They both went down well.  Its hard to tell if I am full or not.  I do get hunger felling too!  I just make sure I stay away from others eating to help because it is difficult not to eat!

I will update again soon!  So far soooo good!
