Excited, yet Discouraged

Dec 29, 2008

Finally, home from the holidays & visits with family!!! Way too much driving for a long weekend, but I survived it! I was so excited on Christmas Eve...I got the Christmas gift I wanted the most! I weighed 497 back in Feb '08 & 473 day of surgery 9/25/08...well my first goal was to get below 400 by Christmas. I weighed myself Christmas Eve & weighed 396, so I met my goal!!! I am so psyched, that I can't wait to get back into working out!!!

My family was great & very supportive, only their talk was just that! My mom had the lap band surgery in 2001...was a success, then she had them let the water out because she had H. Pylori...IDK...then gained again...went to Weight Watchers & looked really good in Mar '07...then gained it all back plus some! She looked so bad when I saw her, but she preached one thing & did another! Her blood sugar was even 417 Christmas night about 11:30pm!!!

Then, my brother & his wife both had gastric bypass in 2002 & her in 2001. He got down from 680 to 255 for his wedding in 2004 & she was stunning, weighing about 140...now they both are heavy again. He even told me he weighs 356!!! this is SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOO DISCOURAGING!!! I was so nauseated just watching everyone eat, that I could barely get anything down! My brother took the skin off the ham, then broiled it in the oven until it was crispy...everyone was chowing down on crunchy pig fat!!! I felt like I was going to blow like a volcano

So, how does this happen? You go through everyhting that comes with these surgeries, then you just don't care enough about yourself to keep up with the program. Granted, everyone falls off the wagon...but if you really want to maintain how well you look...then you have to keep working out & most importantly...watch what you put in your mouth! I am just glad to be home now, where I can cook & prepare for ME!!!

Getting over being sick

Dec 02, 2008

Well, today is about the best day I have had since the 20th of Nov. My kids came down with a cold, so I got it much worse than they did...of course! I was so sick by the time I saw the doctor on the 22nd, that I couldn't even eat...again! I have had the hardest time since this surgery, sometimes I really regret doing it. I have definitely had more than my fair share of nausea & vomitting!!! The bad part is that I do not even attempt to over indulge or eat things I should not have, like fried foods, bread, soda, sweets, etc. For most of the last 2 months, I have made popsicles, ice chips & soup my staples. I am finally drinking more liquids (about 64oz) every day & that alone makes me feel better. I was so afraid that I would feel parched & dehydrated for the rest of my life after the surgery.
Several others have told me how much or how well they are eating since the surgery, but I still can't handle very much food at all. I imagine it is probably because every time I would take 1 step forward, my body would take 2 steps back. Well, I am an optimistic person & I am sure there is light at the end of this tunnel...I just should have done this earlier in life...maybe, it is harder after 40! The good news is...I have lost a total of 68lbs since the surgery...YEAH!!!
