"Although I do give this hospital an excellent rating overall I did have some problems while there. My attending nurses were great but I did have to wait 1 1/2 hours for pain meds one morning. No one covered my nurse while she was occupied with another patient and thought she was being covered. I also had a problem with the food they kept bringing as it was not what I could eat. My last meal there after 5 days was finally the first meal that they had right. I kept telling them I couldn't have sugar, caffiene or milk as I'm lactose intolerant. They kept bringing me regular vanilla ice cream. regular coffee or tea with sugar, regular jello, and at one time even a plate of scrambled eggs with a bread roll of some kind. "

"I met with Dr. Read for the first time on Feb 3, 2003. I had previously attended 2 support group meeting and also a class given by Dr. Read. He seems to be a very up front tell it like it is kind of person. He answered my questions and listened to my concerns. He seemed very knowlegable professionally and a very genuine person. He requires for his patients to attend support group meetings both prior to and after surgery. He was very up front with me about the risks of surgery. Through my researching him, I have come to know that he is respected by his peers. His office staff was great to me, very friendly. Susan seems to put in a lot of time helping us through every step in the process. I'll write more as I go further on this journey. I have nothing negatives to say at this point as I have not had that much contact yet and I have nothing to compare this experience to. Well I got the bad news last week that Dr Read is no longer doing WLS surgery because of insurance problems. I contacted Dr McConnell's office in Ptld after calling my insurance company for a name of a provider. His office has scheduled me for surgery for July 2nd. I do hope this goes smooth. I've contacted my pcp to have them send a new letter of referal to Pacific Care. First I had a surgery date in April but because of a sons wedding it had to be moved. My next date was June. Now this. I'm just grateful that Dr. McConnell to seeing me as soon as he is. I was having it lap with Dr Read but will be having it open with Dr McConnell. May 30, I met with my surgeon Dr. McConnell. I must say I was very impressed with him and his staff. I feel very conmpetent in his abilities. They appear to me to be a very effecient group and I am looking forward to having him do my surgery. I felt like I was the only patient they had. I did not feel hurried. They kept asking me if I had any questions. They really listened to me. They did address the risks of surgery with me. I know his reputation as a surgeon is great and he and his staff were great to me. He is definitely the right choice for me."
