Surgery update!
Jul 17, 2007
Hi everyone!
My surgery was uneventful. I went into the surgery suite at 9:25am and was back in my room by 11:30! I was scared going in, that is for sure, but knew that this was going to be the best chance at a normal life I had! Glad it is over with, but not that bad overall! Thank God, I have not had the first incident of nausea after surgery! Never had a picky stomach before, so maybe it will continue that way!!
My stay at Mesquite Community Hospital was ok, except that it did take a while for lites to be answered at times. The room was private, altho a little small, but was pretty clean. The nurses were nice and the techs were good at doing v/s, etc. Imelda was my admit nurse and she was very sweet. Blake was a day tech and he was cute and nice! Seldom did anyone ever ask me if I needed anything, tho. Which is somethng I ask my patients each time I interact with them. I had the best private duty nurse that anyone could ask for, tho! My hubby stayed with me and was my angel!
The pain I had after surgery was more like when you exercise too much and get that sore feeling. Can't really say that it was unbearable and was mostly an inconvenience. I have 6 incision sites with a couple of staples each. I had a demerol PCA that was great. Didn't get the On-Q soaker pump like I was told by the office that I would get. Never saw Dr. Barker....guess he was there for the surgery, but didn't see him! Ha. I did see Dr. Chavez, internal med and she was nice, then saw Bob from the office. Not sure if he is a PA or a NP or....? But, he stopped in this morning before I was released in the afternoon.
Stopped on my way home and got my prescriptions filled. That Prevacid Solutab was $50 with my insurance! Geez! The lortab elixer and the phenrgan elixer were each just $10.
Getting in and out of bed has been my only challenge since getting home. They said I could eat anything liquid that I could drink thru a straw. So far, I"ve had 2 oz of Silk brand Very Vanilla soy milk.....I love the stuff!.....with a spoon of whey powder added in. Have had that twice since getting home and have sipped water. Tolerated it each time so far w/o any problem. Gonna start an intake diary tomorrow. Did take some of the lortab elixer with some phenergan, to ward off any potential nausea, too.
Met Meg in the hospital. She and I had surgery yesterday and I was able to meet her briefly this morning when I walked down to her room. She did ok, too and actually, got to be released before I did!
Anyway.....everyone take care and thanks for reading my profile! From this point on, every day will be a new day! I go back to the doctor's office next Tuesday the 23rd for a check up and to get my staples out.
Sincerely,
Cheryl
