I. Michael Leitman
"Dr. Leitman was a breath of fresh air. I waited 2 1/2 weeks from the date I called until my appointment and 45 minutes in office until I saw him. He was very down to earth and sincere, yet expressed his experience, his knowledge, and opinions on WLS extremely well. His office appeared to be working like a well oiled machine, which after the unpleasant experiences with my previous surgeon, Dr. Shawn Garber, I have learned is very important. You walk out of your first consult with a surgery date - of course pending the results of an endoscopy (I had recently had one already) and your insurance approval. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I went to Dr. Garber in Great Neck first, because I thought going to the city would be a hassle. But I parted ways with him after those bad experiences(read profile for more info). From the Westbury station on the LIRR to Dr. Leitman's office door at Lenox Hill was less than one hour. Very easily accessed via public transportation. Or, I guess you can drive. He has an office in Lake Success as well, where I go for all of my post-op care. It's worth it!"

"The majority of people on the ward were WLS patients. During my five day stay there were at least 8 - 10 others just like me. That alone was encouraging. The staff knows all about WLS patients. From time to time, the day nurses were a bit slow to respond (I always knew when it was lunchtime), but I've never been in the hospital, and they may have not been so slow, considering, after all. Everyone from the Residents, RNs, Nurses's Aides, and transport staff were friendly and comforting. I was transferred to a private room, which was great and my wonderful night nurse even allowed my mother to stay over on my last night. "
