Latest update.....

Jun 23, 2011

Well it has been a long time since I have posted, but I have been very busy.  As of today I have lost a grand total of 148 LBS, 50 before surgery and 98 since surgery. I have had a couple of stalls. A little frusturating...lol, but once the scale starts moving again I'm a happy camper.  Im still going to the gym, I TRY to go at least 4 days a week.  Apparently I lost all that weight just in time because it has started getting really HOT here. My next goal is to be in the 200's so not too much longer I hope. My 3 month check up was May 12th and it was a success, so my doctor said I did not have to come back til August 13th, my 6 month follow up. I will TRY to update a lil bit more often. I wish everybody having surgery good luck and for those still waiting for surgery, hang in there, it will happen.

6 week post-op

Apr 01, 2011

Yesterday I had my 6 week post op appt. and i have lost 47 lbs. since surgery and a grand total since I started my journey is 95 lbs!!  I am feeling great and my doctor is very pleased with how I am doing. Hard to believe when I started my journey Oct. 31,2010 I was 465 lbs and now I am 370!!  I still have a long ways to go but I'm doing it.  I am never hungry so I actually have to make my self eat something thats protein packed 3 times a day, and my doctor said thats fine. He said if I don't feel like eating then my tool is working.  I had a WOW moment yesterday.  I went to my Mom's house and on the way there I thought I can't wait until I lose enough weight to ride around in my moms convertible sports car (pontiac solstice).  After my doctors appt when I got to my moms, she said it is such a gorgeous day, we should take my car out and put the top down. I said mom i won't fit and she said well lets just try it and see. So we went to her car, I sat down, put the seatbelt on and was ready to go. I FIT!!!! It was such a great feeling and we went driving around Orange County with the top down all afternoon. So from now on when I visit her, we can take her car ;)  I hope everyone is doing well. Take care. Congratulations to everyone either starting their journey or having surgery this month!!

Its been a while.....

Mar 24, 2011

I know its been about a month since my last post, but I have been SUPER busy and with all this new found energy I find myself always wanting to be out of the house.  I used to wonder why some people would start blogging daily, then weekly, monthly, and then just stop for years, but now I understand.  I am going to try real hard to stay up with my page. I will do an update at least for my monthly visits to the surgeon for follow ups.  Yesterday was six weeks since my surgery and I have lost 43 pounds, so I think I am doing pretty good.  I have dropped 2 sizes and today I put on jeans I have not worn in 2.5 years. So my official weight loss since I started my journey on October 23rd is 90 lbs!!! I feel great and I cant wait to see how I am going to feel after I lose another 100.  Congratulations to all the people that are having surgery or starting their weight loss adventure this week. My prayers are with you.

2 week check-up

Feb 25, 2011

Today (2/25/11) I had my 2 week check up with Dr. Leport. I'm happy to report that my doctor said I am doing great!!I have lost 26 pounds since surgery!! Yay!! When the doctor came in the room he said I can't believe you are only 2 weeks out, most patients look tired and drained but you look really happy and perky, so that made me feel really good. My appointment was about 10 minutes and then my doctor said see ya in 4 weeks. And he told me to throw my scale out...lol.  I really do need to stop weighing myself so much, it discourages me when I stall for a few days. So from now on only once a week.  So some sad news..my husbands grandmother had a massive heart attack and is in critical condition and my husband started dialysis today.  His kidneys have gotten worse and the doctor had to start him on emergency dialysis. So because he is on dialysis 3 days a week we are unable to travel to AZ to see his grandma.  So it has been an awful couple of days!! Please pray for my husband Andrew and his grandmother Sally.  Not much else to say.  Congratulations to all the people having WLS this week and I wish you a speedy recovery.

One week since I came home

Feb 18, 2011

Today is one week since I came home from the hospital. I'm doing pretty good. I've lost 23 pounds since I came home, so yay!! I am finally back up to walking 3 miles a day, which feels really great. I was looking at my legs the other day and I thought to myself, hey my legs are getting really thin, then 1/2 hour later my husband and brother in law both said wow your legs are getting really thin. That was a great moment for me!!  Then last night, friends we have not seen in 2 weeks, came over and said wow your face is getting thinner and you have lost a lot of weight, another good moment.  Had a WOW moment too. I put on blue jeans last night that I have not worn in 2 years and they FIT!! My husband even said I looked great in them. So sweet!!  I'm still on my full liquid diet until March 2nd. It's a little hard, but I'm making due. I'm hoping the next stage (pureed) won't be this hard, b/c I'll be on that stage for 3 weeks and I can finally eat soft/regular foods starting March 23rd.  It will all be well worth it in the end. I hope I dont sound like I'm complaining too much, I really am very happy, and nobody said this was gonna be easy right?? I should just be satisfied that after surgery I was pretty much pain free

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Feb 14, 2011

I hope everyone had a very Happy Valentine's Day!! I did, just stayed home and relaxed. I am now up to walking 3 miles a day again so thats good and I have lost 8 lbs since Saturday. I drove for the first time today since having surgery.  It was soooo great to get out of the house and go to the mall.  My doctor told me to wait 2 weeks but he said as long as I'm not taking the pain meds I can drive,  so Yea!! The one thing I'm having trouble with is taking these big horse pills (calcium citrate). They feel like a whole meal. Lol. Anybody have any ideas for a good chewable one.  I can't seem to find any  Well I will post again soon.  Good luck to everyone having surgery.

I'm Home!!!

Feb 12, 2011

Hi everyone!!  I am home now.  Actually I came home on 02/11/11.  The night before surgery I went and stayed with my mom in Orange County. Did I mention I HATE Milk of Magnesia?? No wonder they make u take it at noon the day before surgery.  Anyway back to my hospital stay, I just had to mention that though. Lol. So my mom and aunt took me to the hospital @ 5:30, but my surgery wasn't until 9:30.  I was a little nervous before my surgery, my two fears were not waking up from anasthesia because this was my first time being put under and being woken up with the intubation tube but after I talked to the anasthesiologist, Dr. Lei,  he put my fears to rest. He asuured me that I will wake up and they will definitely not wake me up with the tube in my throat.  After that I was fine.  I actually fell asleep in the OR while they were strapping me in, before he gave me the anasthesia. Lol.  When I woke up in the recovery room @ 1:00 I asked the nurse if we were starting the surgery soon and she said we were done. Wow. Next I asked her was it open or 6 little incisions and she told me 6 incisions.  They told me that my room was ready and I would be spending the night in ICU because when I slept my O2 Sat dropped in the low 80's.  I got to ICU and the nurses were amazing, they did everything to make me feel comfortable.  They ordered me a binder to wrap around my stomach, but to be honest I didn't have much pain like I thought I would.  My pain was mainly from gas, which gave me neck, shoulder, back and chest pain and a massive headache.  I was able to get up by myself, walk and use the bathroom w/o problems.  The nurses told me you look great.  BTW, morphine makes me sick, I was on the PCA pump and didn't even use it, it made me real sick.  The next day I woke up, washed up in the bathroom and they told me they were transferring me to med-surg floor.  They put me in a private room there too, so that was nice because there were some loud patients. Haha. My doctor came to see me while I was walking the halls and told me I looked great and the reason I was not having so much pain was because I walked 3 miles a day before the surgery and this surgery has a lot to do with your stomach muscles.  So I guess the best advice I can give before anyone has this surgery  is work your stomach muscles.  The doctor said I was ok to have a shower and I would be going home tomorrow (02/11/11). YippeeMy hospital stay was amazing, every person I encountered including people from linen, helped me with anything I needed.  This was my first time ever staying in a hospital and they treated me like a princess.  I got home on 2/11/11 at 1pm and it felt so good to be home. I am slowly advancing on my walking everyday, I'm up to a lil over a 1/2 mile now, trying for 3/4 mile tomorrow. Well I have written a novel so I better go to bed.  Congratulations to everyone having surgery this week.

In less than 24 hours I'll be on the loser's side

Feb 08, 2011

In less than 24 hours I will officially be on the loser's side.  I can't wait!!  My fear's have pretty much subsided but I'm sure they'll kick back in tomorrow before surgery.  My grandmother called me yesterday to ask me not to have the gastric bypass. ARE U KIDDING ME???!!! I have been thinking about this for years and really started working on it since June, we talked about it Christmas Eve and everything was fine, but NOW, two days before surgery she wants to tell me her concerns. AHHHH!!  My aunt had the lap band and now my grandma wants me to have the lap band, but I have to wonder if my aunt had the gastric bypass would we be having a different conversation??!!  My mom says I have to do what is best for me and my hubby agrees so I am going to do it.  At least I have their support.  Well please pray for my speedy and safe recovery. I am taking my laptop to the hospital with me, but I dont know how I will feel, so if I feel good I will blog about my experience.  Congratulations to everyone having surgery today and I will see you all on the loser's side!!

Lil Nervous

Feb 06, 2011

So I am a little nervous about my upcoming surgery in 3 days!!! I'm really excited and I know this is what I want and need to do, but I can't help being nervous.  Not of the surgery its self b/c I am well aware that I am going to have discomfort but of anasthesia.  I have heard that some people have not woken up after anasthesia, and I myself having never been under anasthesia before am a little worried.  Anybody else ever have this concern?  My second fear is waking up with the ET (intubation) tube in my throat.  I am very clostraphobic, so I will go into total panic mode.  I didn't have these fears until recently, I guess it's because my time is drawing closer to my surgery.  The good news is by this time next week I will be on the losing side!!   Good luck to all those having surgery!!

Dr. LePort's 1:1

Jan 25, 2011

Today I had my one to one appointment with Dr Leport and I lost 25 more pounds so my surgery is still scheduled for Feb. 9th  Yay!!! I am so excited!! 2 more weeks!!  Actually having my surgery rescheduled was a blessing in disguise because at Christmas time my husband became very sick and was admitted into the hospital.  He is a brittle diabetic and he was admitted to have his toe amputated and during the time he was admitted he found out he had ESRD (end stage renal disease)  He was released 2 days before I was scheduled to have my first scheduled surgery date.  So me not having surgery at that time was all in God's plan because I needed to be home and take care of him.  He is feeling much better now, but is in need of a kidney so after I lose my weight I want to be tested to see if I can be a match for him. He will start dialysis next month.  So please keep him in your prayers.
