I had such a wonderful time last night

Nov 29, 2009

My senior class from high school had a mini-reunion last night. Just about 20 or so classmates and their spouses or dates got together at a local club. Although I was very active and involved in high school, I didn't even go to my 30 year reunion because I was embarrassed for anyone to see me. Last night I felt the way I used to feel - confident and accepted. On the dance floor, young men (young women, too, for that matter - times have certainly changed) kept coming up to me and dancing with me. I had more fun than I've had in many, many years. My body just felt at ease. I LOVE THIS FEELING! I'm so very, very grateful for my RNY!

Getting to know other RNY patients

Nov 23, 2009

I'm relatively new to the RNY game - my surgery was July 16, 2009. I've found Obesity Help to be a tremendous help in learning how to live with my RNY. Having easy access to veteran patients has allowed me to ask stupid questions and get thoughtful answers without having to call my surgeon.

What I'm missing on the general RNY board is the opportunity to meet face-to-face with most of the people I interact with there. We're all so spread out - coast-to-coast. Even with an annual regional event, it's still not the same as getting to meet people at a physical location and really get to know them.

My purpose in starting the "Ark-La-Tex RNY Support Group - Road to a New You" was to build an online support community for RNY patients, but also allow us the opportunity to get to know people who live within an easy drive of each other. I have no idea if other people are interested in this or not, but I'm giving it my best shot. I'm crossing my fingers that it turns out good!
