13 Weeks Out and Already Lost 100lbs

Feb 19, 2013

I'm really happy I'm not giving myself a "goal weight" because I don't want to play mindgames with myself by involving numbers as a goal. I've adapted to the lifestyle changes and need to keep practicing those things in order for my new life to continue to be awesome years down the line.

But in the meantime, I guess I'm doing something right if I'm already down 100lbs! That's really all the news I wanted to share today. Hope all is well with you (whoever you may be:)

Best,

Phil

3-Month Follow-Up Feb. 2011

Feb 11, 2013

Hello everyone,

I'm gonna give a brief follow-up as to how I'm doing 3-months post-gastric bypass. I'm down about 80lbs so far and still melting away. I've fallen in love with working out again. I feel fantastic. I can eat what I want but only limited bites, which is great because I love that I'm still able to eat the bad foods (like wings or a slice of pizza) very seldomly but I still eat it slow and enjoy it when I do. In fact, I've only thrown up once from eating and that was because I didn't chew a piece of chicken in my salad enough times.

Aside from that, I have absolutely no regrets. I'm still single and go out and party with my friends a lot so I'm now drinking whiskey on the rocks usually now. I do not miss any carbonated drinks at all. I never drank soda before, but I used to drink energy drinks once or twice a week and would usually mix it with my drinks. But I don't miss them at all. And I don't miss beers either.

Do I have any regrets? yes! Only wish I did this years ago. I still have a long road ahead of me, and like I said, I'm not going to focus on a goal number, but I know I'm going to be just fine and feel better than I ever have soon.

I hope if you're reading this that you're in the same boat as well, or will be soon. If you have questions, please let me know.

Best,

Phil

First Time Posting - Surgery Is Scheduled In 6 DAYS!

Nov 09, 2012

Hello everyone!

My name is Phillip. I'll give a brief background on me and would love to hear back from folks who have been in similar situations. I'm looking for support or whatever I can find on this site to help me achieve the best possible success I can. Ok, here we go!

I'm 29 (will be 30 in July), have been obese my entire life. The heaviest I've ever been was 400lbs. When I was about 19 when I lost my dad, I started doing the Atkins diet and achieved a huge success by dropping 140lbs. Dropping from 400lbs to about 265 at 17% body fat. I kept it off for about 5 years by eating healthy and keeping an active lifestyle. I then lost my job and started going back to school, and eventually over time, I have come back to my original weight of 400lbs.  Only now that I'm a little older, I don't have as much success as I did before, and plus with all of the supplements that I was taking when I lost the weight the first time (fat burners and such) weren't an option for me because I didn't want to go through the attitude changes and I knew I wouldn't achieve the same type of results that I did before.

So, now that I've graduated college and have what some would consider a career, I now have the ability to get the gastric bypass. And it's actually going to be happening in a few days!

It's a really exciting time for me because I'm really excited to get back the energy and confidence that I once developed after I dropped all the weight I had before. Now, recently since my last doctor visit, he dropped the obvious information on me to drop some weight before the surgery. So, I've been doing the 5 protein shakes (minimum) along with a lots of salads, infused with chicken and avocado, and some cottage cheese. I've also been munching on pistachios to hold me over between meals. While at work, I will usually go get a bowl of soup and not eat the noodles or I'll go to Chipotle and get a burrito bowl with no rice, just meat, beans, lettuce and guac. I noticed that if I was just doing salads all day that I would get irritable.

My whole thing is that I don't have a scale at home, I don't know if I've been losing weight. But since I've started doing the protein shakes and changed my eating habits to salads and protein mainly, I've also started working out doing cardio between 30-45 min about 4-5 days a week. I'm feeling way better and I've gotten a few comments from people who see me all the time that I've look better, so I am hoping that will suffice for my doctor into doing the surgery because I don't want to delay this any longer.

So, do you have any advice for someone like me to help lose some extra LB's before the surgery? I've been pretty non-chalant about getting the surgery with most people because I've done all the research and understand that I'm about to be put into a big world of hurt for a little while along with losing the ability to eat all of my favorite comfort foods, basically my regular lifestyle of eating (I'm not a big sugar guy at all, I mainly drink water and keep the salt intake to a minimum, I developed these habits back when i was on Atkins.)

What kind of tips do you have for someone like myself? Is there anything you would like to know about me to give you a better understanding of my situation? Are there people that have had a similar lifestyle to mine and can offer any tips?

As I mentioned, this is my first posting and I look forward to documenting my journey for you as well as my family and friends as well as the most important person, myself. I look forward to hearing from you! Have a great day!

Best,
Phil
