Lisa, I'm sitting here at my computer very comfortable (in my jammies) 5 days after my lap rny.
I was so concerned about all I heard concerning the difficulty some people had post-op with even trying to sit or move around.
I can only tell you my experience but I feel like kicking myself for all the worrying I did pre-op. Going into pre-op was comforting, the nurses had seen many people like me and in fact, there were several nurses they knew that had gone through the surgery.
Recovery room is still kind of a blur but I do remember being told, "we're going to take care of you, baby. Don't you worry. You're doing great. We so proud of you." Those words alone were so kind-hearted and sincere that I just dozed back off without trying to figure out anything.
After I was taken to my room, I was still groggy but understood about the pain dispenser (I thought that was the answer to all my questions!)But to honest, I used that dispenser only about 5 times during my total stay of 4 days.
I was able to move around on the bed without much pain, in fact I wondered if my doctor had really faked me out and not done anthing! I slept on my sides, moved around just fine.
Remember this is just one person's experience but I research so much ahead of time and knew what some of the worse things were but had a very good experience.
Rest easy, write a note to the nurses on the floor where you'll be staying explaining your concerns about being alone during this time. I bet most of them will take time to make this surgery as comfortable and without concern as they can.
Best wishes for the best days ahead of you.
