Hello all,
It has been a few years since I posted, and I wanted to start up again. I'm ashamed to admit that I have gained some weight back. It all came off so easy (so it seems now) and I got lazy again, and started eating all the wrong stuff. I also think the worst thing that happened to me was that I stopped working out. A few years ago I changed jobs and I completely fell off track.
So since then I bought an elliptical, I have a gym membership (through my work) and I now have the motivation to start again. I am on my second week of doing the elliptical and I am up to 30 minutes at a fast pace (with the elliptical automatically moving from resistance of 2 through 9). I'm even getting up an hour early to get this done first thing. So I guess that I will take this one day at a time.
I have a closet full of cute clothes that I bought when I was at my lowest weight and I will get back into them. I have done this before and I will do it again.
Cheers all, talk with you soon!

Well, what can I say. I am like just about every other individual on this site. I have had struggles with my weight for as long as I can remember.
I thought I would jot down a few of the things I want to do or have happen after my surgery.
1. Get a pair of button up 501 jeans.
2. Tuck my shirt in.
3. Not be embarrassed to enter places-knowing everyone is looking at the fat girl.
4. Not be the largest person in a room.
5. Not wonder if every time people are laughing, they are laughing at my weight.
6. Learn to scuba dive.
7. Take a trip to Hawaii and lay on the beach in a swimsuit.
8. Take a cruise (more of the swimsuit stuff).
9. Shop in the regular sizes (I have never been able to do that).
10. Horseback ride again.
More to come as I think of them.
10/10/03 - I started my journey back in July 2003, I talked with my PCP, and got the process going. I received my approval on September 29 - it only took 10 days to get a response.
I have a consultation with my surgeon on Monday, yes that is right, Monday 10/13/03. Woooo Hooo!!!
10/14/03 - Had the consult with my surgeon. He is really cool. Now it is all up to me. I have to loose 34 lbs and then I'm off for surgery. I have my Orientation on December 3, that is my goal. If I can do this right, I may have surgery before next year. Can you believe? WOW
12/3/03 - I GOT IT!!! IT ACTUALLY GOT IT!!! Today I got my surgery date! My date is January 5, 2004. Nothing like starting out the new year right. I can't believe it. I was able to lose 31 pound in six weeks to get to where I need to be. I just can't believe it. I just wanted to comment on what a great guy my husband is. He has stood by me this whole time, even when I have become really obsessed with my weight (and there are times I have been a complete basket case).
12/12/03 - OK, so I have finished everything I need to do to have this surgery. Only one small glitch, my date was changed to January 6, not the 5th. Dr Baggs is not in surgery on the 5th. Now all I have to do is sit back and wait until the day. Just over three weeks. Wow, the time is flying by.
1/21/04 - Wow, I can't believe it has been over a month since I updated. Well, I had my surgery on Jan 6, that's right, I am a loser now! Everything went real well, in fact the nurses kept commenting on how well I did. Today is my first day back to work (sigh), everything seems to be OK, but I am very tired. Most people don't know about my surgery, they just know I was out. I don't know how I feel about telling people at work yet. I am the only woman in my building in a male dominated Oil Refinery so it may not even be a problem, men tend to ask fewer personal questions then ladies do. I am very pleased with my loss so far, I had to lose 34 lbs prior to my surgery, and I believe I have lost 20 since surgery. That is very close to what I lost when I tried WW 2 years ago, but that took me about 6 months. I am so excited. The pants that I couldn't fit into a few months ago are starting to hang off of me, soon I hope to be able to buy clothes in a regular size store. Well that is it for now.
1/28/04
So I had my Dr. Appointment on Friday 1/23/04. I lost 21 pounds by their scale. He has progressed me to the stage 3 diet. I am having a little bit of trouble figuring out what to eat, but I am working through it. I made myself a scrambled egg with cheese this weekend, and it made me really nauseous, this is the first time I have had any nausea. I was going to have Cream of Wheat but I thought an egg would be more protein. I think next time I will go with my gut. I started back at the gym yesterday, my sweet sweet husband bought me a portable DVD player for Christmas and I used that at the gym (the gym is at my work, and there are no TV's in it) that workout was great! I did the eliptical for 35 minutes and the time just flew by. I think it helped having a movie that I had not seen. I got on the scale this morning and it looks like I am down a couple more pounds Woo Hoo!!!
2-2-04
Well, not a whole lot to report, lost another couple of pounds, I really need to get another scale at home, the one I have is really old, and it tends to bounce around, so I weigh myself many times and take the reading that the scale hits most (as long as it keeps going down, I'm fine). Still working out everyday at work, I am up to 40 minutes of the eliptical, and soon I will be heading into the spin class (yikes!). I finally had my first vomiting experience, yuck! I ate some melted cheese and southwestern chicken pieces, waited more than 1 hour and started drinking water again, nope, not happening, that water came back up - man did that hurt. Also got sick here at work, took my calcium pill and that did not sit correctly either. Off to the bathroom to get sick. Other than that things seem to be going pretty good. My clothes are starting to hang off me and I can now fit into my size 22 pants. That is 2 pant sizes since October! Losing that weight pre-op actually was a blessing in hiding. I already got the jump on the weight loss!
Well until next time. See Ya.
2/19/04
Well I had my 6 week check up today, I have lost 35 pounds since surgery. I had to loose 34 before surgery, that is almost 70 pounds!! Dr. Baggs said he was very happy with my progress and to keep up the good work. I am so pleased. I am now able to complete 40 minutes on the eliptical machine, so my exercise is coming along. Well, that is it for now. See Ya.
3/9/04
Well, I just wanted to mention that when I weighed myself at the gym, I was down to 262. Not too bad. I am going to start using that scale to keep track because it is almost exact to the Dr. scale, and it doesn't bounce all over the place.
3/11/04
I had my second support group meeting today. I weight 260. That is a total of 46 pounds lost since surgery. I think for 8 weeks, that is not bad. It made me realize that I am only 4 pounds from the 50 pound mark. All this time I was thinking how slow I was loosing weight, but I think I am doing OK with it.
4/8/04
Well, I had my three month checkup with Dr. Baggs. I have lost 62 pounds since surgery and 96 total since my first consultation with him. Not too shabby. He told me that I was an example of a successful patient. Oh my god, me a successful example. He even suggested that I speak up during support groups and tell everyone what I am doing right, and how it is helping me stay on track. I find that is I just glance at myself i the mirror, I can almost see the smaller person looking back at me, but then nope must just be my imagination. Oh well. I am feeling better and better about myself as the days go by. I find that I am not hanging out in my office so much at work anymore, I have no problem heading out to the other buildings to get whatever needs to be done, done. I have also joined a couple of volunteer committees at work. Not so scared about them either. Well that is it for now.
4/26/04
Hey, its me again. Just got back from my vacation at Disneyland, I had a blast. Last time we went which was roughly 2 years ago, I was larger than I am now, and I skipped going on a bunch of the rides. Well this time I went on all of them. It really was a great feeling being able to fit on all the rides. We went to Knotts Berry Farm too, and I fit on all the rides there too. On one ride, they did check to see if the restrain system would latch with me and IT DID - with NO PROBLEM, and even room to spare!!! I was sure that I would be walking off yet another ride, humilated and wanting to sink right into the ground, but you know what, I think that may be the best ride I went on. I did have some problems with the whole food issue though. I find that protein and I have this love hate relationship, some days it is great, other days feget about it! I did alot of soups, and even discovered cottage cheese. One of the nice things about Disneyland is they have alot of fresh fruit available, so instead of getting a hamburger or corndog, I got a bannana and grapes. Even though it isn't protein, I figured it was better than eating junk.
We also walked, walked, walked and walked some more. By the end of each day, my feet really hurt, but I dropped 5 pounds. That means that I have crossed over the 100 lb mark. As of today, I have lost 101 lbs, it doesn't seem real. That is I lost 34 pounds before surgery and 67 since. Can't beat that.
So today is my first day back at work since vacation (sigh). I went ahead and did the spin class at lunch, and it ROCKED. I notice that I am getting more of my stamina back, I had a great workout. I am going to try to up my exercise, because when I do that, I really notice my weight loss really picks up.
Welp, that is it for now. Talk with you later. Smiles.
5/6/04
Well, I went to the Professional Business Women's Conference on Tuesday, it was OK. There was a lot of sitting and listening to women talk about their success. It really can get one motivated. I was able to buy a new outfit to wear without much trouble, in fact I picked something out in less than 30 minutes. Funny thing is the stuff that I liked more, was only available in larger sizes, maybe I am going to have to get used to that.
I did learn a good lesson about keeping food I know I can eat with me. There was nothing availible for breakfast that I could eat, later in the morning they put out some hard boiled eggs, so that worked out OK, for lunch they served salad with chicken breast in it, and some decadant desserts. Well, something from lunch must have hit me wrong, maybe the dressing, maybe the fact that I did have two bites of cheesecake, I don't know, but a while later I found myself in the bathroom with the shakes and the sweats. That definately was not fun having to go through that in a public place. After we went to a bar/restaurant to say goodbye to a co-worker. I decided to just skip eating completely until I got home that nite.
I do have to mention something that actually bothered me when we went out that night. It was a group of individuals from my work, mainly young engineers. Well, it turned out that once again I was the largest person there, and I have already lost over 100 pounds! I know I shouldn't get down on myself, but every single bad feeling I have ever had about myself came rushing back. I was so glad when we left and I was able to get back into my comfort zone (my family). My children are the best, as I was picking them up, my father mentioned how I as getting smaller and smaller, and my son piped up with "I'm gonna have the hottest mom around." My two daughters gave a round of "Yea!" so at least that made me feel better.
Well that is about it for now.
8/5/04
Well, it really has been a long time since I updated. As of yesterday, I have finally lost 100 lbs since surgery. I guess that makes me a member of the century club! So total lost for me is 134. Not too bad. One of the nice "side effects" of this surgery is the fact that I am actually starting to look better. Now I don't always see it, but ALOT of people have commented to me, so I guess I am looking better. I know I feel better, I am stronger, I am healthier, I have more confidence. I'm not so afraid to walk into a room full of people anymore (still get a bit shy) and in fact I am taking my first business trip next week. I have some training that I need to take and the only place that offers it is in Houston, Texas.
I have been attending different types of exercise almost every weekday, it is either spinning or a body sculpting class which consists of using hand weights to work specific parts of the body and doing some step exercises to keep the heart rate up. Often there are push-ups and many stomach crunches. I am really surprised at how fast one's body can start sweating even if there isn't alot of hard core areobic activity. I usually can really feel it after class too, there are muscles in parts of my body that I didn't even know I had.
Well, that is just a little update.
I will check in soon.
6/9/05
Wow, has it been a long time. So much has happened in the last few months, I guess I was just not in a good place to write in this journal. I had some marriage problems, but have worked through those and everything is much better now. I have lost 175 pounds so far, I wear a 10 or medium - I LOVE saying that 10 or medium, I can fit into any chair, I can climb into any car, I can slip through a small space to get around stuff, I have hip bones, I have ribs, I have these great collarbones. It's funny I used to say that I hated the way you could really see collarbones on some people, now I love it. I have broad shoulders, so I think my collarbones look really good now. Life is pretty darn good right now.
On a bad note, I haven't been going to the gym as much, but I am hoping to get back on that next week. I really do miss working out everyday.
I think I will start updating again, I also want to place my pictures out in the before and after area.
That is it for now.
See ya.
7/4/05
So I thought I would do a little update. I have pretty much gotten into a pretty good routine. I have noticed that I put on a couple of pounds, but I am working to take those off. I am not too worried about it cause I have been working with weights more than cardio lately and I am hoping that it is due to more muscle.
I recently started posting to the WLS Grad message board. I love that place. I have finally found a place that has people that are going through some of the same stuff I am going through.
Well I will post more later today.
see ya!
