Michael Jay Nusbaum

"May 2005 - I feel like one of the luckiest (healthiest) people on earth! I'm nearly 10 months post op and I'm down to a fit 135 lbs. My body feels lean and strong and I no longer have any problems or medications from my scary pre-surgery co-morbidities. Dr. Nusbaum is an angel. How wonderful to find a very talented, conscientious surgeon with nice people skills! I had surgery in July 2004 and felt just fine the next day. I spent hours walking around the mall just a few days post-surgery and haven't stopped since. No complications. No regrets. Bariatric surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Nusbaum and his lovely office staff for giving me the tool to help myself out of what felt like a prison. Good luck. Enjoy the journey!"

"The nursing staff was phenominal. I didn't have much pain, but I felt they were very responsive to my needs. I worried before going into the hospital about getting stuck in a quad... and I did. Turned out just fine though. I had lovely roommates and the company was nice. My only two issues with the hospital: 1) I question their judgement on the meals: coffee (which I don't drink), jello (which I hate) and diet ginger ale with every meal?! I was repeatedly told soda was a no-no. When I asked about it, I was sort of given the brush-off and told to wait til it got flat. Would a spot of Crystal Light or diet iced tea have killed them? Certainly we Bariatric patients weren't breaking the bank with our food requirements. It seems the least they could do. Oh, and at "dinner" in place of jello we got the most awful, watery chicken broth. It was pitifully bad. 2) I ended up staying in recovery for about 6 hours after my surgery because my blood pressure was out-of-wack. They would not let my husband stay with me despite repeated requests for him. He was allowed in for about 10 minutes after a few hours and then they finally let him in about a 1/2 hour before I was moved to my room. I kept hearing them talk about sending me to ICU because of my bp and I was terrified. It didn't help that I was blind with out my glasses. I felt utterly vulnerable and defenseless. I don't see what harm it would have done to allow me to be comforted by my husband's company. I sort of thought it was cruel and unnecessary. Other than those two minor beefs, I was pleased with my stay and would be confident recommending the hospital."
