Getting back in the exercise groove...

Jan 12, 2010

So, I got too busy to exercise in November and December... BAD! So, I'm back in the swing of getting to the gym 3 days a week. I would like to get to 5 days a week by June!

What I know, I have to exercise as part of my regular routine...it's not just a quick fix. Even though I had gastric bypass, I know that I will forever need to exercise. I struggle keeping this a priority... I admit it. I KNOW I have to exercise and HOW important it is. I NEED to firm up the saggy/ jiggly skin. My goal is to firm up my belly, thighs, butt and arms. I hope to see an improvement by June!

I must keep at it. I figured I would just write these thoughts down to keep this in the front of my mind and will hopefully serve as a reminder to me when I need it.  :)

Now I rest from Cardio Dance and I look forward to Zumba class tomorrow evening.  :)

Now Let's get physical!  :)

My birthday (X-post)

Nov 07, 2009

So my birthday has come and gone and I have survived. It was a bittersweet time for me. Many good things to reflect on:

1. First time being under 200 pounds on my birthday, I honestly can't remember the last time I was below 200 for my bithday, 10 plus years?
2. The scale yesterday morning knew it was my birthday and it finally broke my stall, I now weigh 188.  :)
3. We actually had my son's 6th birthday party on my b-day, as his birthday is on the 16th, and I'm away scrapbooking at a Vermont Inn next weekend. :)

But I had some tough things hitting me as well:
1. Food is sooooo tied to your birthday... going out to eat, eating cake, ice cream. I felt kind of blue as I knew I could not have my sweets. It's the first time since my surgery that I really felt mad that I could not have cake. I had wanted to go  the Sugar free bakery, Chatila's, but there was not enough time as it's 45 minutes away. I will try to get some for me for the holidays, I will let you know how I make out.
2 My first birthday since my Grandpa died. It's been a very tough year. He was very supportive of me getting RNY, but he passed before I had my surgery. I'm kind of sad that he can't see me now. It hit me hard when I received my birthday card from my Grandma and it was only signed by her. I miss him and it's hard.

One good thing, we went to Natick as I wanted to check out PF Changs for dinner as I wanted to try the Chicken Lettuce Wraps, they are a huge FAV for me. (I have the nutrition info that the rest emailed me.) Well, it was sooo busy and my son needed to eat that we went downstairs and went to the MET BURGER BAR.  Since the only meat I have good luck with is ground meat, I thought I could tolerate a burger. So, for one, MET BURGER BAR was fabulous before I had my surgery. Their burgers are fabulous!  So, I ordered a "topless/bunless" burger with Vermont Cabot Cheddar cheese. I put a little ketchup on it too. I also had a little 2 oz cup of their chili too. So I nibbled on my burger and ate the chili (nice and mildly spicy) and I did very well! I ate maybe 1/5th of my burger, but it was good!

So, I move on from my birthday feeling good but it was a challenge. I am very blessed for my supportive family. Now I look forward to my scrapbooking weekend in VT next weekend. I just pray that the Innkeeper will do what he says and cook within my dietary restrictions. :)

Recovery... a real struggle for me.

Aug 11, 2009

My recovery has been a tough struggle, but not due to medical complications (thankfully) but due to constant nausea. The Nausea has been problematic everytime I drink any protein shake. I have tried so many over the past two weeks.
Carnation Instant Breakfast
Glucerna
Boost (Gluc. control)
Nectar
Isopure
Atkins Advantage

Atkins has the lowest amount of sugar, 1gram. That's the protein shake that I get the least amount of nausea with, so it's the one I hope to finish my 3 week liquids on.

I had my staples out yesterday, it hurt! Anyway they felt for me wiht the nausea, I told them it was making me so depressed and that I've been crying alot. So they are allowing me some cottage cheese (1/3 of a cup), yogurt (4 oz.) and some pureed soups.

So the first thing I had was 2 oz of cottage cheese, it was wonderful!  Then at dinner I pureed Healthy Request Vegetable soup, I had about 2 1/2 ounces.

Now this morning I'm dumping again, just like (but not as severe) as the Glucern dumping event. So I'm not sure which food is making me dump. So today I will only have cottage cheese and I will see what happens.

Oh, I weighed myself and I'm at 215 pounds. I'm down 19 pounds from my pre-op testing weight. I'm happy about it but to be honest, I don't see it. It's really just a number right now. I more focoused in trying to get through the day managing the nausea and hoping I don't dump.

Well it's going to be another hot day today, I only hope I can keep the 5 year old (who has been wonderfully helpful to his mommy) occupied.  :)

That's it for now.

Last day at work...

Jul 24, 2009

So I sit here are lunch eating my last grilled cheese, a Yoo-hoo beverage and a chocolate/chocolate chip cookie. Yes, I'm being naughty... and you know what the food does not even taste that good. I think I really am as ready as I can be.

This afternoon I expect a call from UMASS with my sugery time... I think the nerves will really start to settle in then.

I have a ton of housework to do this weekend... I guess that will keep me distracted.

Last night was my last water aerobics class until Dr. Kelly says I can return. I will miss it.

As for Monday, I just want to get through it. I want to make sure I wake up and I'm alive and that the surgery was done laparscopically.

I will write more later.  :)

I might as well start writing, it's therapeutic right?

Jun 17, 2009

I have been approved for RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery on July 27th, 2009. I have one hurdle left to clear in order for my surgery to actually happen. The hurdle is ANEMIA! UGH! At my surgeon's request, I am taking 2 Vitron-C's per day for the past 40 days. At the end of June, my blood must be checked to see if my Iron count is at a reasonable level. If it is, then the surgery will go forward. IF the ANEMIA has not gone away, then my surgery gets pushed out even further. :(

At this point I am thinking positive that everything will happen as scheduled since I am following the doctor's orders exactly.

These days I find myself excited and scared all at once about my surgery. I am really looking forward to my vacation with my family in July, which is 2 weeks prior to my surgery.

My plan is to start stock piling the protein shakes and stuff I will need right after surgery.  :)
