Today I got a call from my PCP doc's office, I was expecting to find out the appt. for my consult.  They told me that they called UVA and was told by them that I would have to call my insurance and get approved for a consult.  So I hung up, called my insurance and they said I didn't need approval but gave me the number for the doctor to call anyway.  While I was on the phone with them I found out that bariatric surgery IS covered!!  YAY!  So I called the nurse and told her the good news.  She calls UVA back and they say that they won't even see me untill I meet all the criteria for my insurance company's approval, which includes a 6th month Dr. supervised diet OR a 3 month multidisiplinary surgical regiment which takes 3 months!!  I'm not too upset, because reading others blogs who have been through the surgery had to go through the red tape and aggravation too.  I guess I just didn't expect it this early!
