Four months later...
Jul 19, 2011
Well, it's been right around four months since all of this began, and I'm proud to say I'm down to 258 lbs. Almost to my 80 lb mark, and though the last three or four weeks things have slowed down, I am still on the downward move and have yet to have an adjustment to my band. I am pretty strict about what I eat during the week, but my weekends have been my traps thus far. With my new found weight loss my socialization has gone way up, which of course means my eating out with friends and the like has gone up as well. I'm working on reigning that back in though, so I can get back on my steady train. Still walking every day, and still enjoying my new found weight loss though!
I went to Old Navy last week and bought T-shirts, that was the first time my clothes haven't come from Casual Male XL or Big and Tall in a long, long time. It felt good to be able to buy clothes at the "normal" stores. I have also been recieving alot of comments at work lately, and even I am starting to notice the change now. I saw a picture of myself from an outing on Saturday night, and the difference from my other photos was just amazing!! Now I need to get some new pictures taken, and get rid of all those old ones!! Apparently my idea of blogging regularly was a complete failure, but I wanted to toss out an update. :) Hope everyone is well.

Hello!
Apr 02, 2011
Well hello! Last week was the start, well.. sort of. I began this little journey back in September of 2010 after a summer of researching various diets/surgery options/weight loss ideas. I've been large since I was about 13, and I'll be 30 this year so I figured it was time to take a new approach. After encouragement from some friends I looked into Lap-Band surgery, and found Dr. Johnell in Greeley, what a great choice that was!!
On March 23rd I had my preoperative physical. I started all this at 334.5, by the time I had my preop physical I was 311.7. Over 20lbs of weight loss before I even got my first incision? Yes please!! I was pretty hyped about that. I had the surgery on March 24th, 2011 and was pleased to have Mother in town to help out afterwords. I went back from my post-op physical on the following Tuesday and was down to 302.4. Pretty exciting over all, as now I'm under 300, but I won't have a weigh in on their scales until I go in for my first adjustment in a few weeks. I can't wait to see what happens then. I'm hoping to have passed the 50lb mark by then, but I'll be equally as happy if I pass the 40lb mark. Progress is progress, not matter how you color it.
A little back story about me I suppose, I was born in Gainesville, FL (Go Gators), and grew up in Sarasota, FL. Other than Boy Scouts I didn't do many activities growing up. (Yep, I'm an Eagle.) I often look back and wish I'd played football or something, but I did Marching Band (Trombone) for my four years of high school. As I said earlier, my battles with weight started when I was about 13. Interestingly enough prior to then I was an absolute bean pole. You couldn't get me to eat, other than the occasional snacking on bits of things. Apparently that summer I figured out that eating was actually fun, and went nuts with it. I could blame tons of things.. Nintendo, Friends moving away, stopping summer programs, but let's face it. I made all the choices, and while I clearly wasn't looking at the impact those choices would have when I was 13. I've had a long long time where I've known the consequences and not a thing has changed. So I only point the finger at myself for what I've allowed myself to become. Which is why it ultimately was up to ME to do something about it!! I moved out to CO a few years ago when I got a job with the FAA pushing tin. I love my job, and picked CO because I wanted to be closer to all the activities I enjoyed in scouting growing up. Camping, Rafting, Hiking, but since I've been out here I've been hiking three times, rafting none, and camping none?.. What gives you ask? I allow this weight business to limit me entirely to much!! I have several friends who are into all of the above things, and I do occasionally get asked to go along on these things, but I always felt like I'd be holding them back by going, they'd have to wait for me to "catch up," or limit what they were doing because I was there. Crazy huh? Well times they are a-changing! I've met some new friends these last few months before the surgery, friends that are looking forward to going on hikes, and know what my condition is/will be. I'm really exciting about experiencing more of the outdoors of CO, and as the weight drops, being more comfortable doing it. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm more than open to them!
I'm basically just walking now, since I'm only a week out from my surgery. I'm a neurotic weigher, according to my scale now I'm down to 296.2. Pretty awesome when you consider everything, but it is slowing down abit. I think it's likely due to my increased intake of water and such, but I promised myself today I'm going to stop weighing myself every day. Saturday mornings will be my weigh in. I do 30 minutes of walking at a 3.5 now, but I've ordered the P90X and Insanity sets of the internet, just waiting on them to arrive. I did P90X with a friend for awhile when I was training for work in Oklahoma City, so I've seen that it does actually get results. I'm just hoping to atleast start a routine of sorts with these.
Anyhow, I guess I've typed alot more than I thought I would, and though maybe no one will read it, atleast it puts something out there as a starting spot. I plan on making my little notes as I go. I'm trying to figure out how to upload my picture into the avatar thing, but it keeps telling me the photos are to large. If anyone can help with that I'd be much appreciative!
Thanks for reading.
