Update
Jan 03, 2010
I had the lap RNY gastric bypass on November 3, 2009. I went in to the hospital on Tuesday morning for the procedure, and was released on Thursday afternoon. I went back to work with a total of two weeks off work.
When I first set up my "ticker" I was at 250.6 pounds, but right before surgery I weighed 240. I am currently holding firm at 201 (for about 2 weeks now). I'm not discouraged, and am keeping up with my protein and water. I suffered a knee injury the Wednesday before surgery (very shortly after being approved to do real exercise, as long as it didn't involve my abs - and I was looking forward to doing something more engaging than simply walking). So I'm working out, but babying my knee.
To avoid any kind of ab involvement, I am utilizing resistance bands for my arms and upper body. I am hoping that on my early February check up at the surgeon's he approves me for ab exercise, in which case I'll switch to free weights and my Total Gym - 'cause the resistance bands are great for travel and on breaks at work, but not so much for what I want to achieve for my body!!!!
I am using an elliptical for legs, butt and cardio, but am only currently doing 15 minutes a day - again, babying that darned knee. I've never had a knee injury before, and can't wait to get back up to full speed.
I know I'm still considered obese and have a long road ahead of me, but already I feel so much better. I have more energy and am not so ashamed of how I look and I am sleeping better. My sugar levels are all in the normal ranges, all the time. The doctor anticipates taking me off my cholesterol medication when I have my blood work up done the first part of February, too.
So I'm not just looking and feeling better, I'm getting healthier!!! What a great way to start 2010.
I still have some adjusting to do to my new stomach, but it is well worth it.
At this point, I would highly recommend this surgery to anyone.

Waiting on insurance approval
Jun 11, 2009
I've done the 6 month Weight Watcher torture, endured the total waste of time of the nutritionist (she simply read to me the information that I already had a print out of) and escaped unscathed from the pysch eval (many said they'd never let me leave).
Now, I'm just waiting on the insurance company to approve!
Dr. Schweitzer's office thinks they'll know something one way or the other by June 23, 2009, and if the insurance company approves then I'll FINALLY be given a surgery date. YAY!
