7 1/2 Weeks Post Op

Jan 30, 2009

It's been 7 1/2 weeks since my surgery. I am loving it! I have lost 35 lbs. so far. I am currently wearing a pair of size 12 jeans for the first time in YEARS! I am generally a 14 now but these are Old Navy jeans and I love them just because they are a 12. I am cleaning out my closet this weekend of the "Too Big" clothes. I am full of energy, exercising regularly at Snap Fitness with my husband and children. I am NO LONGER OBESE!!!!!! I am simply overweight now and headed for my goal weight of 148 lbs. I have no regrets and I still love my sleeve. I just uploaded some pictures from two Mardi Gras balls that Mike and I went to. It sure is more fun to dress up when you feel better about yourself.

One Week Surgiverary

Dec 17, 2008

IT's been one week today. I went to see Dr. B yesterday and got a good report. I am getting a little tired of the liquids but I'm sticking to it. I've lost 12 lbs. according to Dr. B's scales but the pre-weight was before I ate everthing I could get my hands on before surgery. MY Total is 16 lbs. Either way I am pleased with it. I am feeling better each day although I do have a little more pain on my left side (perhaps where my stomach USED to be). I am going to go back to work tomorrow part time. I have hired a college student to come help do the heavy lifting. I am a therapist and work with children. I am enjoying the pre-paid diet food I bought from Dr. B's office. The shakes are good and the pudding was really good.  Anyway, I am so thankful for my health and progress and family support.

Day 5

Dec 14, 2008

I'm doing better and better each day. I feel stronger, less sore. I did a little around the house and rode around with my husband to look at the storm damage to a nearby neighborhood that occured the day I left for surgery. After that I felt really tired. After a nap though, I feel better. I'm running behind schedule on my liquid protein. That New-Whey is GROSS! I'm really enjoying the Physician's Weight Loss Fruit Protein Drink that I got from Dr. Bellanger's office. I am beginning to feel hungry.....I think. I think it is more of a mental hunger than a physical one. Two ounces of broth and I'm full again. I am tollerating JELLO....Green JELLO is best! Mike and I laughed today about the Flintstones Vitamins.Back when he had his surgery, he said that the Flintstones were the best part of his diet and now I think I may agree.  My biggest problem now is the BREATH! Yuck. I am offending myself. I have brushed, flossed, gargled, and rinsed so many times that I'm scrubbing the enamel off my teeth. I guess it 's kind of like the ketosis side effects described in the Atkins Diet....burning fat and eating protein. Whatever it is, I hope it goes away soon.  No nausea, no vomitting, no fever, NO REGRETS!

Back at Home recovering

Dec 12, 2008

Well, its over and done with. My new life begins. I made it home on icey roads. It snowed while I was in the hospital! It never snows around here. I am up and walking around. Still a bit sore. Trying to get in all my proteins and liquids. The hospital staff was great. Dr. Bellanger was great. I thank the Good Lord for my successful surgery and getting us home safely.

This is It!

Dec 09, 2008

I passed all my pre-op tests yesterday, met some ladies who are having the same surgery this week and next. I go in at 7 am in the morning and the surgery is scheduled for 9 am. I am ready for this! Next entry will be post-surgery.

The Time is Near!

Dec 05, 2008

My surgery is coming up on Wednesday. I go for pre-op on Monday. That made me a little nervous that pre-op is so late. What if something is wrong? I am so worried that they will have to postpone my surgery date but I guess that's just me worrying about things I can't change.

I am so excited but nervous. My husband is so supportive. (He had a VSG on June 19, 2007 and has lost 170 pounds.) My son is also supportive but my daughter (age 14) is not so excited about the surgery. She doesn't want to talk about it.

This is the beginning of a whole new me. I can't wait. I am trying to exercise daily to be in the best shape possible for the surgery. I hope to get back to exercise ASAP.

I have lots of support with my husband, Mike, having gone through the same surgery. My sister, Janet, also had a VSG in September of 2008. She has lost 45 pounds. My friends are supportive and I have prayed hard about this decision. I will post again after my surgery on Wednesday.
